Yes. Any search of “Tacoma lean” or “taco lean” would return with hundreds of results. Gas tank is on the driver side. As well as human when it’s in motion. Battery too.

Will need to weigh as much as you + full gas tank and 50 lb battery.

    Hopefully you're a smaller guy. :D

I’m still rearearching the real taco lean.

A lot of people say it’s due to weight because of the battery, driver, and gas tank.

But when those are empty it still appears to lean. Even with new upgraded suspensions there is this lean.

According to my truck the driver side is lower by 3/4” but when I run a level down the centerline of the truck it’s perfectly level.

My next test is the frame. I think it’s due to frame twist.

Unless they made one fender taller tan the other you're parked on a slope. Oem springs are supposed to be side specific. Maybe they ran short on the stiffer driver's side sets.

It my case the ground and body are the exact same, perfectly level.

So... people have always blamed the driver side fuel tank and battery as the cause of taco lean. While this proposal is logical, I do not believe it is accurate. The lean is (on my truck) 1/2” with new springs all around, empty tank, battery removed.

So I dug a bit further,

I first validated I had a perfectly level surface, then grabbed 4 six ton jack stands and set them all to the exact same height.

I then jacked up the front of the truck and set 2 stands at the exact position on the frame side to side (just behind the suspension on the frame).

Then I jacked up the rear of the truck and put two stands in the exact same position as far back on the frame as possible (just in front of the leafs)

    It struck me immediately.

The passenger rear of the frame was not making contact with the jack stand.

This means that the frame has a slight twist. Specifically I measured just about 1/2”

My truck hasn’t been wrecked, or thrashed, but does have about 125k miles.

The way the frame is twisted would cause the lighter half of the vehicle, (without anti sway) (rear) to show the twist through the suspension.

So.. I adjusted my driver side coil over to raise just about 1/2” which pushed the passenger rear down about 1/4”

Front remained level side to side (anti-sway).

I firmly believe it’s a manufacturing design to offset engine torque/traction levels, to supplement torque transfer / twist.

I’m no expert, but I do not think the weight is the cause. ( at least in my case )

Thoughts? Try it yourself, make sure your wheels are not touching the ground.

I was too lazy to bother with the frame after taking measurements but the test above is pretty good. Nice write up and confirms my suspicion as well. I recall reading somewhere that the Tundra also has some frame twist from the factory so it def seems deliberate.

You know, i did the same with 4 jack stands and i was only sitting on 3. I freaked out thinking i had the truck unlevel, but my driveway is pretty damn flat. Weird...

I'm also running dual batteries which wont help lol
