In all my years of owning Toyota products I've really never had an issue that wasn't really my fault with the car. This is probably the first time I've dealt with a corporate issue and it wasn't in my favor. I bought a 2018 Trd Pro Tacoma and the leather on the steering wheel is bubbling and loose. Please chime in on your cars because the leather on my steering wheel is really really lose in numerous spots but especially the 7 o'clock spot. It's really really bad when it's hot especially. But so far the dealer, regional manager and corporate all agree this is Toyota quality.... What do you guys think? They won't accept any pictures I took only the ones the dealership took which I have a feeling took it from a far and not really playing with the actual leather. As you can see it's really pliable. Did I miss something when I paid the 50k sticker price on this truck? MY FJ had better leather stitching.IMG_2464.jpg IMG_7856.jpg IMG_8987.jpg

Looks quite a bit looser than mine, but you probably wont get anywhere with toyota on this one.

Go show them the steering wheels on the lot, that is, if they're tighter than yours.

Unfortuantely the service guy took pics in which I never saw so I don't know if he tried to replicate them. Corporate basically said I have no options car has less than 5k on it... I mean the worst part is I'm constantly touching that part of the steering wheel so it annoys the heck outta me when I'm touching it.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel in your picture is a lot looser than mine. How long have you had the truck? What type of driving do you do? Assuming you're not action-gripping the life out of the steering wheel, that amount of slop shouldn't be happening.

This truck is my daily and it's got less than 5K. The only thing that I'm upset is that nobody wants to look at it. Like I talked to corporate and was like hey guys I just wanna send these pics to show you how loose this is. It's like a baked potato thats been cooked too long. There is significant gap. I'm surprised they're cool with this quality. Other things don't bother me about the Tacoma but this bugs the hell outta me and than I'm out what $800 if I want to replace it? The corporate lady was listening to me but really didn't care. She offered me 0 options like basically goodbye thanks for calling and please don't call back ever.

I had a serpentine belt idler pulley die at 36,600 (which is insane) and they told me to piss off basically as well. Not a huge deal, NAPA had the part in stock, but it just further cements my hatred for dealerships and service departments:rofl:

well at least it wasn't too expensive to fix.... I just hate little things like this that cost a lot to fix and doesn't do anything on my part. If it was tires at least I could upgrade it or suspension etc.. Having to have to spend more money to fix something that they didn't do a great job on is bulllllllllllllllshhhhht........ :crapstorm:

Try a different dealer. One that will fight lousy Toyota to fix this.

Since corporate said nothings wrong that basically any dealer cannot do anything. Sigh this suxs... I thought leaving Subaru and coming to Toyota would be a nice sigh of relief.

Ask to meet the local Toyota warranty rep at the dealership. Show him and talk in person. From the pictures you posted, that is not normal and should be fixed.

Has anybody ever met a Toyota warranty rep? I don't think this is possible it's a desk job. Unless I'm wrong the only thing I can technically do is go to another dealership and complain down the road if it get "Worst"

Not Toyota, but I have other manufacturers. Certainly not a desk job with the other manufacturers I’ve dealt with, they make regular visits to their dealers. Toyota also has the distributor mafia in certain states, so you may get stuck with one of those bozos depending on where you live.

that is not right on your steering wheel. Mine also has 5k miles on it and it is solid and not loose at all. I am really shocked they would not just took care of it asap.

Mine has been a little loose at the 9 o’clock position since day 1, but nothing close to yours. I’d say that is definitely not the norm. Try another dealer if you can!

The steering wheel on my ‘16 was “loose” in the same area. But it was not even close to that loose. That truck was totaled before I ever asked the dealer about it. It has not been an issue on my ‘17.

I would let them know if effects your ability to drive(it’s the steering wheel) and keep fighting.... especially on a pro

I had my steering wheel replaced due to faulty stitching. Can't imagine this would be much different?

My service advisor usually tries to compare my concerns to others on the lot to see if it’s normal. I bet your wheel cover is a lot looser than the others on the lot. I am surprised you’ve met resistance on that. Have you had bad luck with this dealer before? I agree with previous suggestions. I’d try another dealer before looking into buying a new one.
