Mines loose also It has been like that since day 1 I thought of bringing it up to the dealer but then waffled on it now I'm definitely going to bring it up and maybe even open a tech case on it.

Today it sorta frayed. I’ll have to post pics it looks like it’s undoing itself except that the stitching is holding. Kinda weird. I’m gonna take some pics and post it just in case. The last couple days one LA have been hot and I’m sure it’s causing for the leather to contract and expand over and over.

I wonder if you cut it off if it's just a normal steering wheel beneath. :notsure:

Sorry to hear about your situation OP. I can't believe they are denying your claim. It is clearly defective and it's disappointing they aren't taking care of you.

On my rear seats, the leather seems really loose compared to the front seats. I'm not sure if that's normal or not though.

After phone call and emails and complaints.....Good news everyone...(with a little stipulation). They will fix it. They took a long hard look at it, I believe cuz they kept my truck for 6 hours. Without giving me word but they will fix the steering wheel. The only thing they said was that if it were to break again that it more than likely wouldn't be covered under warranty. I'm totally fine with this as long as the steering wheel is fine. I get the truck back tomorrow! I can finally enjoy the truck I purchased without the small drama. I want to thank the internet for it's guidance!

Finally, geeszch. Can't believe they gave you such a hard time. Picked up my new '18 on Friday and based on this thread, the first thing I checked was the steering wheel. Tight as a duck's arse.

@BruTaco make sure to inspect the new wheel before installing. Make sure it’s not defective and loose like the one your placing.

Surprisingly enough the steering wheel is better for sure but that same area it is loose but not as loose as my original. I'm kinda surprised the workmanship is still not very good lol. Oh well I can now understand why they made such a big deal. The regional manager must've been getting a lot of complaints of the leather and even replacing almost is the same lol.

I had a similar problem with an old car and the steering wheel leather was loose as well. I took a syringe filled with Aleene's leather glue and problem solved!

Most likely looks like a base SR steering wheel, just plastic under the leather.
