I haven't spotted the thread yet that addressed the weakness of the 2005+ rear suspension (springs) that allowed the truck to 'bottom-out' with any rear seat passengers or any normal load in the bed. I can't be the only one who had to fix this?

I finally had enough after 2 years and had an off road prep shop install Ride-Rite adjustable air springs (made by Firestone)... the firmness and rear height is adjustable with air from 10-100 PSI. The Bilstein shocks were also upgraded to 5100s in the rear... The front end was never a problem....

After the install, a trip out to Ocotillo Wells Off Road Park was in order to test the system, and it performed great... Future trips to Baja with full loads and passengers proved this was a wise fix. I didn't want to make the ride stiff all the time, as adding a leaf would do... The price of installing progressive springs (Deaver, etc.) was similar to the cost of air bags, which I can change the firmness in a few seconds.

I traded in my '05 just six days ago for a 2010 TRD... I hope Toyota fixed the soft spring issue, but if they didn't... I took off the Ride-Rites and will install them on the new truck!

Photos attached (I hope) that show the air bags and 5100s...

I would like to hear how other Taco owners dealt with the bottoming out problem... I have/ had a 4 door TRD Off Road 4WD... 2005, 2010.

My first Taco was a 2001 Xtra Cab TRD Off Road 4WD and was PERFECT, with no suspension issues. It looked like they used the same equipment on the bigger 2nd Generation Tacoma/ heavier 4 door as they used on my 2001?

i have a question.... if using a spring spacer (the kind where you have to disassemble the front coil) - this would lengthen the shock and compress the spring at the same time, in turn limiting its use correct?
if using a regular bolt-on-top spacer (where the spacer simply bolts right on top of the shock/coil unit with no disassembly required) this will NOT affect the shock travel?

    3" Lift
What does that mean? I'm about to get a 3" lift, then I want to put bigger tires (285/70/R17) on my stock TRD sport wheels. I can still do that right?

You can but you will need a 1/2" spacer to clear the UCA.

What does this mean, spacers for your wheels ?

Ive just put a 3 in leveling kit on my truck with 285/75/16 bfgs mud terrain km2s on my truck, the truck looks great but im def having some rubbing issues. Ive been told spacers will fix this but would like some diff opinions. Both the front tire are rubbing the upper control arms and the tires are sitting not even and inch apart from them. What the best way to fix this. Also the right tire is rubbing the frame a little on the inside of the tire when you lock it all the way to the right. it only does this on the right side why is that? how come its only rubbing the frame on one side. is it something to do with the way the tires sit or what?

sounds like the tires are too big to begin with. i was thinking about getting those too on a 17in rim w/3 inch lift but afraid they would look too much like balloons or donuts.
going with spacers would be the definite only way to clear the rubbing. especially on the frame. unless you opt for UCAs.

I'm getting a pro comp 3'' leveling kit it comes with line drop kit and AAL so 33'' should fit and ride better than the factory or at least the same for around $200.00.Now all I need is some FJ TRD anthrite rims and tires.

Another question: I just put a Toyotec AAL on my 06 dbl cab LB 4x4 to fix the soft rear suspension problem. Now there is alot of front rake which I knew was going to happen, but it is more than I was anticipating. 4inches total lift. It should settle down to around 2inchs of lift. I want to put something on the front to level it out. I'm thinking of 2 options. The spacer or the 5100's. I know the spacers can make the ride more stiff. The 5100's other than the cost seem like the way to go. When do you have to start replacing UCA/LCA? Could I do the 5100's set at 1.75 w/o replacing UCA/LCA? Is there a certain amount of lift 2inch/3inch that starts to cause problems with other suspension/drivetrain. I just dont want to have any problems in the future.

here is a qustion for ya'll i have a 3 inch lift leve kit from tuff country coil over in the front and aal in the rear as we all do after the fist lift we want a lil bigger, if i was to get some 5100's and extend them out all the way how much more of a lift would it allow me to gain. i.e. would i gain another 2-3 inches. if not what is the best thing to do that is cost effective. also be advised in running 33 inch nitto mud grapplers extream terrain. do alot of hunting, and off road driving live out in the country.

Camburg UCA's: from my experience, and from what Camburg has informed me about, were designed to give greater clearance to accommodate larger coil over coils. They are NOT designed to correct alignment issues, caused by the addition of a 3" lift.

Uh-oh I just purchased Fox coil over 3" lift for my 2010 DC 4x4 TRD Sport with Camburg UCA's am I going to have alignment issues...?

Lol, so many questions. I can't help but ask some too though.
I have an '04 5 lugger. I plan on getting a 2.5 or 3 in lift. I think it's actually a leveling lift so it won't quite lift the back that high. $440 for the 2.5 in. After tax and labor Is that a bad deal? I don't car that much about articulation and spring travel. I just want something that will make my truck equivelant to a prerunner. Will a 2.5 or 3 inch be enough to match a stock prerunner or 4x4?

I also have the plain Jane 15 inch wheels. I would want prerunner/4x4 size tires on the wheel. Will the tires rub? Would I need spacers? What's the stock prerunner/4x4 tire size? If I need spacers to stop rubbing, will those hurt my bearings?

    Sorry

Ok I am considering lifting my 09 pre runner 4 door 4x2 taco and i know little to nothing on the subject of suspension and lift kits. What things do i need to consider deciding leveling kit vs. lift kit? Which kit would you recomend for each that is most cost effective? and What would provide a smooth ride with offering a more commanderring view of the road: lift or level?

A lot of useful info on lifting my truck but my question is if I get my truck lifted does it void the extended warranty I have on my ride? Also do Toyota dealerships do any of the lifting? Thank you!
