Finally got thru the entire OME vs Toytec thread. Was leaning towards toytev ULK, but then I saw someone mention ICON stage 1. Its about $300 more than the ULK, but is said to perform much better. Would it work to get the ICONs in the front, then Dakar leafs in back with bilsteins? Or should I get the rear shocks from ICON as well, to go with the Dakars?

I don't know about all that. I'm changing from a camburg 2.5" lift, to something pieced together for what I want to do. So far I have the all-pro expedition leafsprings with Bilstein 5100s for a 3" to 4" lift.
Next I'm going with the Icon extended travel coilovers. They go up to 3.5"s of lift, but I'm going to have them set at 3.25"s so I'm not maxed out. That will keep me happy for a while I hope. And I'm getting 4" over stock length brake lines too. I have heard good stuff about all kinds of products and I think I will be happier with Icons then anything else.

So if Im going Icon I should probably go extended for better performance all around?

I'm new to all this, would the LR UCAs work for an extended travel? What are the main benefits to an extended travel?

    Very right.
    I already have camburg UCAs.
I'm only going with the extended travel coilovers cause they go up to 3.5"s of lift and my back end right now is at 4"s. Just take a look at the pic of my truck and you will see how it leans from back to front.
The camburg coilovers I have only go up to 2.5"s and overall won't cut it for me.
I can't say the extended travel coilovers are for you or not, but I think they are for me.

From what I have read and talked to people about it, I agree with all of this.

And you have 2.5" lift in front and Dakar in back that somehow gave you 4"?

I am trying to avoid that ass up look, I am thinking of going with 2.5" front with icons and Dakar in back with one leaf removed. How much does that effect load capacity? I throw 500lbs of dirtbikes and the occasional load of concrete, sand etc.

No, I have the all-pro expedition leafsprings with Bilstein 5100s in the back. And Camburg coilovers in the front. Check out the all-pro website for the details on the expos.

I got a question for everyone.

how much are you supposed to tighten the top nut on the rear shocks? I got some used 5100's to put on for the rear but wanted to know how tight the top but needs to be.

The instructions that came with mine said no more then 22 lb ft for the top and between 40 and 60 lb ft on bottom.
If i remember correctly, the nut on top is a 3/4. The bolt it threads on to is I think a 7 mm allen head. Look at it from the top and you will see what I mean, if you don't use an allen wrench to hold it when tightening the top nut it's just going to spin and not do anything, took me 10 mins before I figured that out.

    Awesome, thanks for the info.

Now the question is how do I get my torque wrench on it while also using and allen wrench to hold the post in place? do they make open/box end torque wrenches?

I had to go buy a crow's foot attachment to do it. But since your shocks are used make sure what size nut it is beforehand.

So now I'm really leaning towards Icon stage1, it's just a few hundred more than the toytec ulk. What is the deal with the shocks being rebuildable? Is that something a local shop can do when the time comes? How long do they normally last?

Is there any other brand I should look at in the $1000-$1500 range?

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
In theory they're kinda like dirtbike shocks in that after "x" miles they get torn apart and completely rebuilt. Best to find a local shop that'll do 'em if it's your DD. Some guys send them out to DSM for a rebuild. I avoided going that fancy. IMO simple is reliable, but a ton of guys love Icon.

You can do a complete OME with LR UCAs for about $1,500. Less bells and whistles, just good old fashioned springs and shocks.
