I've had a stuck and a frozen e-brake, didn't seem like this. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Most recent change is usually the first suspect, so I'd start at the front diff and go from there. Interested in what you find out. Keep us posted.

I guess I might add I did engage 4 hi and 4 lo just to see if they'd work. Both engaged easily. Dunno if that matters...

Hmmm Can't believe no one advised you to jack the front end off the ground and check that both wheels spin freely? Might need someone there to hold one side still and spin wheels on each side. Could be a bound up transfer case or frozen caliber.

Isolate which axle is stuck. In neutral lift each axle so tires are off the ground. Which spin, which don't?

Rear ring and pinion...last one I busted happened while backing out of the driveway. Raise your rear end off the ground using jack stands and the put you truck in drive and just let rear wheels idle at their own speed. I bet you'll notice the binding is at the rear diff

Same kind of thing happened to me, but in a family member's Jeep Liberty. Ended up being a bad/broken ABS sensor. It would literally apply full brake when trying to take off from a stop, first time it happened was in traffic and scary as shit.
Idk if our Taco's even have the same type of junky sensors as the KJ's. Just throwing an idea out there!
    G'luck!

More I think about it maybe something is up with the tcase like if you had miss matched gears between the front and rear diffs while in 4wd making somekind of weird driveline bind

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    X2
It is independent. One axle is connected to the ring gear. This is the axle that is disconnected when not in 4wd. The other axle is connected to the top of the carrier assembly which makes it independent because of the spider gears (they will spin around the ring gear). The TC has the front DS disconnected when 2wd is selected.

I think you have a stuck caliper.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Had a chevy years ago that front brakes grabbed to much also at a GFs house. It was dead of winter about no degrees outside.
I could go backwards forever but not forward. Didn't have 4 wheel drive in that one so no option there.
I would suspect brakes and then drive train.

    Good luck. Let us know.
