Hey guys, I have a 2011 Tacoma extended cab 4.0 manual on 35s and I’m looking to re-gear soon to 4.88s.

I’m stuck on what locker to go with

    Detroit $735

    Harrop E-locker $1350

I really can’t see spending almost double on the e-locker what’s your two cents? Is the engagement and disengagement as bad as every other guy says.

Auto lockers are annoying but you get used to them.
E lockers are worth the money if you have it.
I have cheap lunchbox lockers in my trail rig and they're better than open diffs, but the e locker in my TRD is great for only being there when I want it to be.
But I also daily drove stuff with welded rear diffs for years and actually preferred that over the auto lockers I've had.
You just have to decide if you like stuff to act like stock stuff on the road, or if a few little quirks here and there won't ruin your truck, but rather make it more interesting.

Different topic, but have you considered a bit more gear than that if you're going to live with 35s?

Have fun trying to drive a Detroit-locker-locked truck in wet / snowy / icy roads weather....

If you're going straight, you don't notice, and it's a lot less noticable with an automatic transmission. With a manual they can do some weird stuff at weird times, but again, you get used to it. A Detroit with an Auto trans is nearly undetectable other than an occasional pop when coasting in a turn and then getting back on the gas.

I've been running regeared diffs with front/rear Harrop E-lockers for a couple years now. Zero complaints. They engage and disengage more or less right away - there's no wonkiness like the OEM rear locker apparently has.
