Wholly crapski.....look what the 3rd party adjuster quoted of $21,930 and they are cutting me a check.

    Those Tacomas hold their value.

I'd make sure you look at prices for comparable equipped Tacoma's in your area. That value is negotiable.

Now, if they paid you way over the reasonable value... take the check and run.

Edit: Here in Seattle, your truck would probably be mid to high $20's

I plan on "upgrading" my 2017 TRD OR up to the 2020 Pro. Right now would be the absolute best time to buy a 2019 Pro if that's what you would like to do. I don't think there are any issues, and looking at the amount they're going to pay you for your truck, I say go for it. You'll have a small loan, won't need gap insurance, and could have that paid off easily within a few years.

Let them total it and buy it back with a salvage title

Why would buying it back be a good thing?

My son was in a wreck and the insurance co. totaled it. He got a good amount for it 2400.00 so he asked how much to buy it back. They wanted 400 for it so we bought it back and repaired it for 700.00. Although we got a salvage title, he drove it another 5 years. and then sold it for 1500.00.

Sounds like you did good. But the frame is bent and cannot be repaired.

That is incorrect. When my '02 Tundra was totaled it had a bent frame and my insurance (USAA) said that's not an automatic total loss anymore and that there are ways to get it repaired without replacement. They never even got to factor in the price for repairs on the frame before it was considered totaled. If a car insurance company trusts that the integrity of the frame is still good after the repair, especially since they would be liable for anything afterwards, then it must be possible.

The body shop said it cannot be repaired. The frame was one piece and they don't chop it up.

Well, hopefully you've already contacted a dealer to take a look at a new vehicle.

If it were me, I’d be happy and sad. Sad to see the truck go, but happy it’s totaled and not going to be fixed half ass.

Parts are in demand, guys will fix those trucks for many years to come. Ask what the buy back is still. I agree, you may not want to fix, but if the buy back is low, you can often sell just a major part, like the engine, for the buy back, sell a few more large parts for profit, and then sell off the carcass for a parts truck.

My advice, don't buy it back. Take the money and get yourself a new truck (Wait for the 2020 if you can). Live worry free that a new truck will be under warranty.

That's what I am thinking. Maybe if I had the time and place to mess with the truck.
