    Just purchased a 2019 TRD Off-road, used.
I’m noticing a humming noise while driving, it’s noticeable at 40-50 mph when your maintaining speeds or coasting, it goes away when accelerating or decelerating. Sounds like it’s coming from transmission or rear. Not a grinding or popping, it sounds like air or tire noise but it can’t be as it goes away when accelerating.

It's the rear differential. Mine does the same thing. Plenty of other 3rd Gen owners also have this sound.

Regular street tires, sounds like it’s in the back, could be differential, got to lifetime warranty plus I believe the Toyota warranty is still effective. Have an appointment Thursday at the dealership where I purchased it for them to “diagnose “ the problem.

Sounds like a warranty issue either Toyota or the dealer, I would hazard to guess. has anyone here had this replaced?

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have a 23 that started doing the same thing and I don’t believe it to be normal as this is a newer development.

Ask your dealer about the tsb to help lower the noise level

Thanks I made an appt and found the TSB # to inquire about. I’ll let them tell me I’m nuts before bringing it up though.

Thanks all for the feedback! I did take it to dealer, got the runaround for sure, brought it to local Toyota dealer with the extended warranty in hand. They changed the rear differential, I paid my deductible and went on my way. Been about a month and maybe 500 miles and the noise is back!!!! My first Tacoma has NOT lived up to the hype!!!!!

It's a resonance frequency sound that you are hearing, there is a TSB that can help dampen the noise.

Yea, thanks, I looked up the TSP, never seen anything like this as far as fixing a problem! I guess my question would be is this just a bandaid until there’s a catastrophic failure? What would they do if it just gets louder? It’s a brand new differential why wasn’t this cured by the manufacturer? Way too much money for something that’s going to continue to raise these types of issues!

Well a month later and I just wanted to post an update for anyone else that comes across something similar.

Somehow at 20k kms a rear wheel bearing failed and was transferring the sound into the rear differential causing the buzzing that was driving me nuts. Good as new after the dealership replaced that for me.

My dealership is replacing the passenger side rear wheel
    bearing .
At first they said it was “Harmonic Noise” . I went back yesterday for service . They took it for a ride and informed me of bad wheel bearing . March 3rd it’ll be good as new .
