I remember where 300hp, or even 267, was a lot.

That said I rarely floor my V6 Taco, more power isn't at all important to me.

I do wish the computer would let me brake torque it though. I would do the occasional burnout.

Apparently people like noise, historical lore, and perceived reputation more than actual usable torque and real-life durability. If Toyota replaced this nutless wonder of a V6 with a turbo 4 - even with the same power and torque rating, but with all of the torque available from just above idle like pretty much every modern turbo 4, sign me the hell up.

My '93 MR2 has a 3sgte engine with 2L 200hp 200lb-ft torque from a low pressure turbo. Compact Sports Car Magazine once brought an MR2 to 450hp just by using bigger turbo, injectors, intake/exhaust. inter-cooler. MR2 consensus is that once you get higher than around 300hp, reliability issues start to occur.

A 300hp 2.4L low pressure turbo and modern electronics could be bullet proof like my MR2 and also like my MR2 offer great tune-ability for the aftermarket and I think Toyota realizes the value of selling a truck with aftermarket interest and support.

The beauty of a 2.4 will be the fuel economy when not boosting.

I came to my current 2019 Tacoma TRD/OR from a 2018 F150 4X4 crewcab that had the 2.7L Ecoboost motor in it. I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT NUT TO HAVE THAT MOTOR IN MY TACOMA!!!!!!! So if that kind of engine is what Toyota has in mind, I cannot wait...!

    A few.
It sure wont be the turbo version of the 3.5 that's going in the Tundra being used in the Tacoma. Toyota as a company was built on 4 cylinder engines.

I think I concur. Hearing rumors they will be on the same frame and possibly have the same powertrain, I would imagine the price points would have to be pretty similar too. Just wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I don’t care whether it’s true or not. He does do some work for Toyota though on the Camrys...doesn’t matter to me either way

My son has an '18 Platinum F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It has more balls than the 2.7L when ya hook up a trailer, but as far as quickness, 0-60, pulling out to pass on the freeway, etc...the 2.7 is every bit as fast. I've owned F150s with 5.4s, Dodges with the hemi, Chevys with the 5.3, etc. That 2.7 in that F150 would run off and hide from those trucks! I do have a friend with a Raptor with the HO 3.5. I think it is pretty badass from I hear...
