    Watts = Amps x volts If the inverter is designed for a steady 400 watt output, the welder cannot draw more than ~3.5 amps @ 115 VAC. :eek:

    yeah that's not gonna work lol. We run around 70 amps at 220V on the .065" 4130 for our baja car. Thats with a TIG though.

    knowing in theory and knowing in application is different lol. i dont know what is up with arc, i just dont have the feel for it. it takes a while and a lot of flux sticks to get the groove going.

    TIG is where it's at, I'd love to learn how to do that but just getting a decent set up costs well over a couple grand.

    Oh no no, dont call me that. im an accountant/business man LOL! just with a very hands on personality :D arc isn't bad, i just dont have the knack. for some reason i can oxy weld like a champ (even though nobody even uses that ever) my buddy is pretty dam good at arc, i just cant keep the stupid arc going consistent.
    did you arc weld your sliders?? Eww, god. Mig can do alright without a super clean surface, same with arc, but any weld will be much better if you have a clean surface. I welded that light bar on my last truck to the pull tabs on the frame without cleaning them one bit and after over kill on the welds i could lift up the front of the truck with the bar.
    tig is where it is hard! tig's niche as you probably know is aluminum, which is such an odd metal it takes a lot of skill to master. Its weird at first setting everything right and keeping a puddle (like you would with oxy) that makes a clean weld. In his 20s my dad was a welder on a nuclear plant project and could lay perfect super long tig welds as good as a robot could today...lots of practice haha.

    a bit of bubbling isn't as big a deal as the penetration is. A weld can look fine on the front but unless you get the heat penetration on the back side it is severely compromised. going up or upside down aint easy. pretty easy to get pockets. they have done good so far so i guess you did a decent job. I could have welded mine, but i had a shop do it because it's such a crucial piece i wasn't taking any chances. i wanted clean, pretty experience welds on the sliders.

    LOL, still thought this was the ID bs thread...whoops. taking my bs back home!

    I lay down super shitty looking welds and it have the penetration that it needs to be strong. The cleaner the material sure helps with the penetration. But with flux core they don't need to be perfect either.

    -camping in the lower lot at area bfe
    -pick your own spots...jace and i need two large spots either next to the entrance or within easy viewing of the entrance with some trees next to the site. we will have banners that need to be setup and trees would be nice. we also need space for a sunshade and 6 foot table that will have free shit on it (we will be arriving wednesday late morning)
    -"You should have plenty of room to place your group down there. Please let them know when they arrive that there is absolutely no camping beyond the tree lines and we prefer no parking on vegetation. They must stay in the open areas outside of the trees. During Jeep Safari, I had several people not understand what I told them and I hated asking them to move."-from Olaf
    -no camping fees
    -donations are highly recommended to area bfe and to moab friends for wheeling to help make this happen
    -donations for area bfe can be deposited in their donation box or given to me to be remitted to them
    -olaf, area bfe manager, should be stopping by at some point during the event also, so donations can also be directly given to him if so desired

    cb, not many have ham, so we pretty much made having a cb a requirement (at least for the NW crew) so everyone is in communication on the trail.
