    Utah folks...

if any of you plan on being in the moab area before the year end, can you stop by some of these locations off 191 to check and see what the land looks like if it maybe a good spot for base camp?

maybe somewhere around here... 38.700500,-109.653 or 38.734918,-109.656219...per this map (http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/media...in.Par.99473.File.dat/CampingRestrictions.pdf) it's unrestricted BLM land between state land and national park lands.

jeep safari will be a month before this so that would be a good time for someone to finalize a spot, but if you're heading out there before that, it will give more time to find another spot if it doesn't pan out...

place we went to last year could work for some of the trucks, but don't know if we'd be able to fit 30-40 rigs in one spot there...

it would be nice to be able to fit all rigs in one spot for a giant meet and greet/cookout deal at least one of the afternoons...then large enough space for every other night to fit a majority of the rigs for chillin out

a location that has a large central area with some side locations for campsites would be ideal allowing those who want to stay near the central location to still have some separation from the main party area

LOL it would be a bit tight for two ;).

Seriously though I never hear any planes in the morning. I was out cold.

I did see a couple planes I think in the evening flying down in the canyon.

    camping information per BLM...

Camping is restricted to designated sites along Highway 313, the Gemini Bridges Road, the Black Ridge Road and Pack Creek Roads, the area accessed by the Mill Canyon Road and the Blue Hills Road, in the Castle Rock area, and south of Moab in the Blue Hill/Picture Frame Arch area. In addition, camping is restricted to designated sites where Kane Creek Road crosses Kane Creek itself, and at Dripping Springs near Ten Mile Wash. These sites are marked with a brown post and a tent symbol. The sites are free, but campers are required to carry out all garbage, including solid human waste. Campers are required to possess, set up and use portable toilets. Campers may not bury, or leave exposed, solid human body waste and soiled toilet paper. The disposal of solid human waste off public land is required. There is no wood cutting allowed. The sites are summarized below.

Gemini Bridges Road - There are six campsites located in Bride Canyon.

Picture Frame Arch Area - There are four sites located six miles from Highway 191.

Mill Canyon/Cotter Road/Dubinky Road Area - There are approximately 40 sites located in this area.

Kane Creek Crossing - There are approximately 28 sites located along Kane Creek where the Kane Creek Road crosses the water.

Dripping Spring near Ten Mile Wash - There are several large campsites on the west side of the road and within the riparian fences.

There are several areas in which no sites are designated and camping is not allowed. The Shafer Basin, which forms the viewshed of Dead Horse Point State Park and is important bighorn sheep habitat, has no sites. Long Canyon, which is subject to extreme flooding and is also bighorn habitat, has no sites. The small area between the entrance to Arches National Park and Highway 191 also has no sites. No camping is allowed in the Mill Creek area immediately east of the city of Moab, or on the west side of Spanish Valley. No camping is allowed within one mile of developed recreation sites in the Canyon Rims Recreation Area.

Remember, when using free designated sites, you are required to remove all solid human waste from the area. Campers are required to possess, set up and use portable toilets. Campers may not bury, or leave exposed, solid human body waste and soiled toilet paper. The disposal of solid human waste off public land is required. You must camp only in marked sites, and no wood cutting is allowed. Following these simple rules will ensure that the sites are attractive to future campers. Enjoy your stay!

i'm sure you won't be the only one...

there are also plenty of campgrounds around for interested parties...

plan for the base camp is to find an area with a large main site that can fit 30-40 rigs and some dispersed camping spots in the close vicinity
