Hey guys. New member here seeking assistance. I have browsed around the forums looking for my answer and I think I know the answer, but I am new to Tacomas and trucks in general so I want to consult the experts.

I am looking at 2020 or 2021 tacoma and specifically looking at the TRD off road vs the TRD off road pro. If I am looking to do a suspension lift with 33" tires, is it a waste to get the TRD pro because I will be removing the stock suspension parts and nice shocks that come with the TRD pro and therefore I should go with the less expensive TRD off road? Are there other functional reasons to still get the TRD pro model? This will be my first Tacoma and I will be buying a manual transmission with the intentions of installing a suspension left, 33" mud tires, and I will re-gear to 4.88. The truck will be my daily driver but I will also off road in it in Tennessee, hike, camp, and hunt with it. As far as off-roading goes, I would say mild to moderate with no rock crawling. Please advise and thank you for your advice. I am sorry if I am duplicating a thread. Also, any advice on lift brands and shocks is greatly appreciated but I will continue to research that to death before I do it.

IMHO I would go with the OR especially considering if you're going to take the pro suspension off. Members have ran a kit using the pro suspension to fit 33s, that could be an option also.

Just all depends on your budget

In my my ever so humble opinion, there are only two Tacoma trims that are worth your money for what you get:

    TRD Off Road
    SR 2.7L 4 cyl

I’m going to suggest the opposite of most people. Get the Pro and sell the parts you remove. The Pro will hold resale value way better then a modded Offroad. People will give pennies on the dollar for mods done to an Off-road. A Pro will always be a Pro and keep the value you paid up front. Basically you will get more back on you investment.

The TRD OR is the best bang for your buck. If you are absolutely certain you are not going to swap your suspension out, the Pro may be worth it to you.

My vote would be OR, esp if you are doing those mods. That said, some folks report being able to install 33s on a Pro due to the 1in lift up front over other Tacos.

For the MT on 33s, you might consider OVT instead of regearing. Less cost with added benefits.

For the MT, consider the accumulator delete (ADM) and 2Lo (2LM) mods.

I will only swap suspension parts required for a suspension lift. I want a suspension lift so that I can fit 33" tires on. In doing this, I assume I will need to swap out shocks and some suspension parts. Can I get the off road pro and do a suspension lift and keep the stock off road pro components and shocks to fit 33" tires?

    Thanks you guys!

You lost me on OVT and accumulator delete and 2Lo mods. I don't know what these are.

I hate spending other folks' money, so I left you with the acronyms to search out.

But, OVT is a tune package that gives a big hit of torque down low and a lot of improved driveability overall. Way less expensive than gears, esp when you have 4.30s to start with.

The Fox suspension is the biggest upgrade on the TRD Pro. If I was going to swap suspension components, I would go with the Off Road. You would be saving a good bit of money that you could use for upgrades. Obviously there are other things specific to the TRD Pro, but most of it you can add to the TRD Off Road if you want.

Now, if money is no issue, the Pro is a sweet ride and you could easily sell the Fox suspension.

Keep in mind that the pro only comes in one configuration - fully loaded. The OR (off-road) has multiple packages/upgrades you can pick. If you get a fully loaded OR you're pretty close to the pro in price.

Make sure if you don't care about a package (technology/premium) that you don't get one configured as such. Save that money and put it towards the mods you want to do.
