Hi I love Toyota Tacomas and have been saving up to buy one for awhile. I am looking to purchase one that is dated from 2006 and on, but all that aside I have a question about the styles.

I saw this Tacoma on Craigslist:

I also see others driving around that look similar to this and are all sitting low. These Tacomas also do not have that TRD sticker on the side.

Are these Tacomas (like the one above) any different from ones like the one below. Because I will be looking to lift my Tacoma upon purchasing it.

The first pic is a 5 lugger. 2 wheel drive, plain jane. the 2nd pic is either a 4 wheel drive or a Prerunner...which is a 2wheel drive that sits up higher like a 4 wheel drive.

I always thought that prerunners were just smaller Tacomas, this is not true?. Like I said I am a noob to them lol. So pretty much a lifted tacoma has to be a 4wd or a prerunner?

The top picture is a five lugger, basic Tacoma truck. The bottom picture is either a Prerunner or a 4x4. A Prerunner is a Tacoma on a 4x4 frame and suspension with out the drive train at the front end. The TRD OR has a electric locker, (power to both rear wheels at the same time) and the TRD Sport has a limited slip, (limits the amount of slip (spinning) that will occur on a wheel that has no traction before the other wheel (with traction) begins to move).

A prerunner is just a 2WD Taco that's set up like a 4WD. It IS possible to lift the 5 lugger, but not a lot of people do it. If you're wanting it to look like the 2nd pic (Looks like a 3 inch lift), get a prerunner or 4WD and lift it.

Thanks a lot guys! This really answered my questions. I am working towards a new truck everyday and will hopefully be able to join the TW soon. (btw the bottom pic is a 4x4, it is one of my friends)
