Do any of you off roaders keep a welder handy? My neighbor has 2 unusual welders, they run off your alternator and were made by Interstate Industries. One is new, the other was installed on a service vehicle as a demo. The neighbor sold them new and these 2 are leftovers.

Size wise they are about 12 inches by 6 inches by say 4 inches, they are made to fit in the engine compartment or say in your cab. They require a 150 amp alternator.

Ever heard of something like this and where can you sell them? This is the new one.

I'm not a welder, so know nothing about it.

These are cool. I saw an article years ago where one was installed in the glove box of an off road truck for emergency repairs. I'd love to have one some day.

The problem is unless you can find or borrow a vehicle with a 150 amp alternator there is no good way to test them.

Do they have wiring schematics with them ??

It looks like you have one output no adjustment unless it is not in the picture .

If you can`t test them they might make a good paper weight.

Never seen any come through the shop is the manufacture still in business maybe they will take them back

Easier to have a baby set of torches. Braize, weld, cut, warm a cup of coffee, start a fire to stay warm, make acetylene bugs, etc

Now your talking.. A mini oxyacytelene set up has distinct benefits. And I want to get one of those one day (although I already have a full size set up) But it ain't so good to drive around with those gases vs. an electrical welder. I have thought about this a lot. I guess it is the Prepper in me.

You want to be careful some of the smaller cylinders will not flow enough to support a cutting torch.

I had this as a idea years ago the research lead me that was not going to work for my use.

Take your regulators off to transport quite a few are hauled around every day

That's a score if hes just giving it to you. Plenty of resources online to tell you what alternators you need for it.
