I'm looking at two tires sizes, which would be more appropriate for winter on my Tacoma Off Road...or am I overthinking this?

    1. Standard OEM sizing 265/70-R16

    2. 245/75-R16

I guess my gut tells me the narrower (245) tire as I've done on my cars, but does the default narrow is better work the same on pickups, even in a more snowy off-roadish environment. Not talking serious off-road, but back road, unpaved, crappy type of road....sorry new to the truck game.

    thanks for your input.

Yes tall skinnies are better for snow tires

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Looking at Cooper Discoverer ATW's for winter but can't decide which size I want.

I spoke to tirerack and they also suggested going with the 245/75-R16s, which I did.

Got a set of Cooper Discoverer A/TW tires in size 265/70-16 installed today and man let me tell you they are so much nicer than the Duratracs they replaced. They are whisper quiet and smooth as silk on the highway. My TRD exhaust seems so much louder now that the tires are quiet. The Duratracs lasted 5 years and about 57,000 miles until I got tired of how loud they were, and because they wore down to the point I didn't think they would make it through another winter. If I wasn't on such a tight budget these days I may have replaced them a few years ago. Don't get me wrong, they were good tires traction-wise but I could never get them balanced 100% and they always caused some vibration at about 55 mph.
