I picked up my '23 TRDOR in December, dealer had them at 38 PSI, I immediately dropped to 30 all 4 tires, then a couple weeks later did the chalk test, at 30 PSI my tires were still bulging in the middle, visibly before I even did the chalk test, after test I'm running 28 in the front, 26 in the rear, cold. They warm up to 30 front and 28 rear when driving. MPG has dropped a bit, or could be my lead foot now that I have 2500 plus miles on it.

The drive is a lot smoother, also noticed braking is better, I had locked up the wheels a couple times at 30 PSI during aggressive stops, nothing since dropping the pressure.

Obviously with more tire on the ground that makes sense.

I run 34 psi on my 265/75/16s. Feels right. Dealer service seems to like to use 35. Not too concerned about a small psi difference.

Apparently, you are uninformed of what the chalk test provides. Educate yourself on the topic, then come back and admit it’s useful

Haaa, unfortunately, I am pretty well informed and pretty well educated. That is why I know it is useless. What it provides is a mad child because their chalk is missing and a great conversation starter with your neighbor when they ask what you are doing. Aside from that, there is zero scientific data provided.

I'm sorry, but if you truly were that educated, you would realize that chalk provides a visual reference to contact patch based on tire pressure that you would otherwise be unable to see. Maybe "scientific" is a stretch, but it certainly provides data.

Negative. There are a couple of factors that render that information useless. 1. You can't keep the steering straight. 2. Your tires do not keep their shape as you drive. 3. Unless you are stuck in 1972, you are running steel belted radials. Because of this your contact patch remains very flat over a vast range of tire pressure. 4. Toe angle really impacts your scrubbing of chalk. I could go on with a number of other factors, but this should be enough to make you realize that what you are doing is little more than a gimmick. What should really clue you in on the pointlessness of this is the fact that you won't see anyone in the race world doing this nonsense. Undoubtedly if this actually worked you would see Kyle Busch or Brittany Force doing this at every track, but that doesn't happen.

No fight here, just making sure that people have the correct information. This chalk nonsense has been around for years and keeps getting repeated as if it provides some value. It is one of those things that doesn't hurt anything so it is easy to repeat. It's kind of like pb blaster as the answer for all fasteners that are difficult to remove.

Factory tires or did they somehow get switched for a P-metric? Factory tires on the Off-Road have no P in front of them and that makes a difference in load capacity vs P. If it was the actual stock tires, I'd be very surprised for them to be overinflated at 30 psi.

That’s on a Sport. Off-road is not p-metric. My post was in response to his TRD OR, I edited my post to clarify that.

The number on the door jamb, around 30 PSI, is about right unloaded. The number on the tire (44 PSI on my tires) is the max rating for the tire. Not necessarily the truck.

Anywhere between those 2 numbers (on the road) is fine depending on the load. I often carry loads and don't want to go through the air up/air down dance when I need to carry a heavier load. I keep around 35 PSI in my truck most of the time. More when needed depending on the load. Has worked fine for me for the last 50 years. Never had any problems and typically get long tire life.

Off road, and at very slow speeds, drivers often reduce air pressure to 10-15 PSI to get better traction.
