Soon to turn 65 and new to Tacoma world, I recently got back my 2015 Tacoma TRD sport which my son was using while he was home on Oahu and now living on the mainland. I’ve always enjoyed fixing up my cars when I was younger, and as I get older I would like to fix up my Tacoma but in a more refined way trying to keep it looking stock but with subtle upgrades. So far I installed a Retrax bed cover and Amp running boards. Next I going to do a leveling lift on the front end which I hope will allow me to install at least 275/70R/17 tires. I will be using my stock rims which are 7.5 wide x 17. If possible, I would like to go to 285/70R/17 also on my stock rims. I’ve tried to look through previous posts but not exactly sure because some say it’s ok while others say they scrape so I’m not sure if they are using different rims or spacers/backing or tires brands. I will be using BF Goodrich KO2. Does anyone know if the 275 and/or the 285 will fit with stock rims, 1 1/2” front lift and using BFG KO2?
Mahalo for taking the time and Aloha!

If you're thinking about 285/70R/17's with a moderate leveling lift, you'll probably rub a bit at full lock on your cab mount. Myself and others have done the cab mount chop, just make sure you're ready for that before you go cutting. I cut a bit too much and had to fab up a larger plate out of sheet steel which isn't a big deal but I would have liked to have a smaller chunk removed instead of a huge bite of cheese. You might need to massage your pinch weld in your fenders to not rub on the bumps. If you get adjustable UCA's, you can ask the shop to give you as much positive caster to push your tires forward as safely as possible. It'll help you clearance your tires easier. Just be prepared to trim a bit, a little goes a long way.

Dont let that discourage you, any auto shop with a welder could do the CMC for you, but I couldn't tell you what they will quote you. I wouldn't spend anything more than 50$ out the door. You could save yourself a little money if you cut the cab mount before you took it to the shop, just make sure you have the plate in hand before you start cutting. I used about a sleeve of dremmel cuttoff wheels for both sides then rattle can black. I have yet to have the plates welded on and its been about 6 years. Yeah,.. I know. As for massaging your pinch weld, I used a 3lb sledge with a 2x4 to bend it over. I have a forum post that has pictures, lemme find the link.

How to: Bolt on trimmed fenders (alternate method) *pic heavy*

The photos showing the inner wheel well were taken post massage. No need to get crazy, just fold it over taking your time to not split it along the seam.
