    not a lot
If don't really need a bed go for the 4 runner . If the hauling capability that you are worried about when you need to buy that refrigerator or washer dryer , just rent a trailer.

Its a lot cheaper than maintaining the hauling capability year round but never gets used..

I used to drive a 2wd compact truck to take care of my hauling needs and an old 4runner for mall crawling. So i had this Idea of ditching both and pick up a double cab shortbed and while I'm on it might as well get the 4x4. Great now i got all my bases covered.

But it was never enough, now i got a new truck that I'm hesitant to beat the snout out of it. because , Its to nice and shinny to mess it up..:(
I miss my secured cargo space that a 4runner offers and the short wheel base .

I think i should have kept my POS 2wd regular cab compact truck and bought the 4runner instead. Some times i toy about the idea of trading for a 4runner..

Im just not getting the tacoma hype , don't get me wrong, I like the truck but do not feel hammering the shit out of my 30K plus rig.

4runner probably would've suited my needs as well since I don't really plan o "off roading" and I don't really haul anything in the back of the bed. I think I've only used it twice since I've owned the truck. Once for some sand and another for a xmas tree.

My wife wanted me to get the 4runner because it made more sense for us and our family.

HOWEVER, I love the look of the Tacoma and after driving a friend's Taco. I was hooked. It still makes for a decent family car and I did go all out and purchase the TRD Sport plus which I probably didn't need.

But how else am I suppose to mall crawl like a boss.

Get what you want and what you need the vehicle for. Both are good choices IMHO.
