Reliability is important to you, that is how I felt.

Well then you need to start a new thread. Should I get a Tacoma or a Tundra. Ha

I had a 2012 F-150 XLT SuperCab. I loved the truck and never had any problems with it. I had it for about 5 1 /2 years. The only reason l sold it was because we were moving.
Now l have my 2012 Double Cab and it's been great. l definitely say the Tacoma will hold its value better, but that doesn't matter if it doesn't fit your needs.
I'd say decide on what size truck suits your needs best. Then decide on what truck from that size category. If you really need the large space of a full size, or is a midsized more than adequate. Only you can decide that.

You are really comparing apples to oranges. You need to determine your needs. Both are good trucks just depends on your needs.

The most I've towed in the past 5 years with full sized trucks is about 5,000 lbs, which from my research, the Tacoma is capable of. However, my trucks have mostly been used for hauling dirtbikes/motorcycles and landscaping material - nothing too heavy. I just want a truck to have the option of towing/bedspace and a vehicle that will last more than 30k miles without major servicing needed, as I've experienced with my previous 3 trucks. Having a huge cab isn't a necessity by any means, but it has been nice having the space with my recent Ram Crew Cab. Just a creature comfort.

How many people do you regularly have with you? Do you have kids? How about dogs?

Typically 1 addnl passenger and 1-2 dogs. However, I am only considering the double cab option, as I occasionally will haul around more people (2-3).

I'd definitely be doing some test drives. Coming from a full size down to mid-size is a big difference. I'm 5'6" and love the Tacoma. I'm short enough back passengers have at least some leg room, but if you were taller rear passengers' leg room, even in the 4 door, will be limited.

One of the things I always do is set the driver seat how I like it, then get in the back seat to see how a passenger would feel.

I actually did the same thing on a test drive the other day ('07 TRD Double Cab) - I'm 5'7" so didn't experience any issues with room in the back seat but then again, not everyone is my height lol. Although I'm sure my dog wont complain either way.

Yes, definitely. But some of my other vehicles - most notably my 2006 Scion xB - have not rusted nearly as fast. In fact the xB has less rust on it than my 2014 Tacoma. Go figure.

If you need the power and space and are willing to maintain a monthly payment then the F150.
If you are ok with the smaller truck but want to do mods and go without payments then the Tacoma.
I did the gm thing and stopped doing anything to personalize them because I was losing my arsh on them without the extras.
Gotta think am I ok with this vehicle for as long as it lasts or will I want something different in the near future.
I’m ok with my base taco until I can’t push in the clutch.

Thank you all for the input! I think I've made the decision to go with a Tacoma. A larger truck and cab have always been a luxury, not a necessity in my case. Some sacrifices im willing to make for a truck that's going to be reliable well over 150k miles. Now just need to figure out what to do with the 5,000lb paper weight I have on my hands!

Every Ford I’ve ever had has given me issues shortly after purchase. With that said, I’ve never owned an F150. I think the Tacoma is a sexier truck, but that is completely subjective.

I think it comes down to what you will need the truck for when you’re doing actual truck stuff. For example, my 3rd gen Tacoma is amazing, but I would really be able to tow more weight which cannot be done. No mod can get me in the ballpark I’d like to be in for hauling campers.

My buddy just bought a brand new F150, the inside of it is really nice, spacious, all new tech...etc. Much better than my Tacoma. I just can't get over how ugly the truck is from the outside. Just my opinion, and not really relevant to your question I know...

Father in law got one, roomy but that’s about it...I don’t know what it is, everything on the truck feels cheap...materials...feelings just the whole truck feels cheap.

It's just the most recent update to the front end that is so damn ugly, F150 has always been a good looking truck in my mind.
