Until this thread I didn't think the clutch could fail in a way that would prevent limping home. I don't know why I thought that.

175k miles, no clutch problems. It squeeks sometimes in the winter. I've never cared enough to get it fixed.

The squeak (in the winter oddly enough) was my first problem symptom. A short time after the squeak, the clutch started to soften. I'd kindly recommend you save yourself some trouble and have it looked at before you potentially become the first known Tacoma stranded on the side of the road. I'm very grateful my clutch lasted just long enough to make it to the dealership before if completely failed and could not be driven.

On my way to parts unknown when my clutch went to the floor. I was a mile from home. So at the stop light I stop turn ignition off and put it in second gear and hit the starter with the ignition. Hard on the components but I Made it home slowly in second gear and down the hill after that to the shop. I could have been out in no mans land. It was a pin hole leak in the Clutch Flexible Hydraulic Line. Didn't see the leak until it fully blew. The air infected both cylinders. Had to replace them. Warning signs are fluid around the connections area between rubber and hard lines. Pedal will not engage until warmed up. Shifting noise between gears at random. Pedal engages close to the floor until warmed up. Advice: if it feels wrong IT IS! :violent:

I should add to my earlier response that I replaced my clutch slave and master about about 40k cause I went to leave for work one day and the clutch pedal was on the floor.. don’t know why it failed so early, but it did and no problems, several years, but not a whole lot of miles later.

No money, all went to truck...
Had my 6MT replaced at 75,000.

Get AAA. It's like $100 a year and give you nice peace of mind.

I'm on 100k with no problems, I did take out the clutch accumulator at 60k.
