Hi I was curious how much people are paying to get there mods installed. I got a quote from a shop and it seemed pretty pricey for just the installation. I already have the parts and just need them installed. Can someone tell me if this seems over priced?

    Good morning,
Yes with those wheels and tires you will need a cab mount chop, that runs $200
    .
Bilstein 5100's front and rear Old man emu 2888's $275 installed
    Front SPC UCA's $150
    Rear 1.5 inch add a leaf $200
    Nitto ridge grappler's 285x70r17 Wheels 17x9 6x5.5 -12mm $101.50 mounted and balanced
    Alignment $79

damn those prices for installation actually sound pretty darn good compared to what shops in SoCal charge just for labor.

If you're intent on having a shop do it and you trust those guys to do a good job, then that sounds more than fair to me.

Suspension install especially 5100s is super easy to do in the driveway though if you have basic tools, if you want to save some money

Those quotes seem reasonable, but I pay $0, except for things that require special equipment, like tire mounting/balancing and alignment.

I don't think those prices are out of line at all. Labor rates will vary depending on where you live, but I think you'd have difficulty finding any shop that would charge less than $100/hr.

Would YOU do those tasks for those prices if you were charging $100/hr.???

The only item I would question is being charged $150 for UCA install on top of the charge for front strut install. Seems a bit excessive to me.

Looks right...can’t be treating nickels like manhole covers if you want them motivated to a good job.

Ok, if everyone is saying it's not bad then it must not be that bad. I can agree with the $100/hr for labor but the total is about $1k. Does this take 10 hours to do?

They gave me this quote before for purchasing the 5100's and UCA's through them and getting them installed. It seems like the labor is way cheaper in this scenario. So that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

May not take them a total of 10 but at least 8 if everything goes right, that's some screaming good prices for parts included

You would be able to fit a 275 no problem with Bilstein 5100's in the front with an aftermarket upper control arm.
Total parts and labor would be $1140 and you would need an alignment which we can do for $79.
Your total before taxes would be around $1215.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Prices aren't bad for a shop. Id try to bargain a little bit better of a package deal. Most of the work is done on front struts to swap out the UCAs so could trim a few dollars there. I would try to trim a few dollars off of a AAL as well, doesnt take long at all with a lift.

EDIT: If the strut and AAL install includes parts, then good deal Id say!

Yeah, I don't get how the price is way cheaper for getting those particular parts though them and labor is included.

Everything seems like a fair price for amount of labor and average shop fees here. 90 an hour, roughly 7 hours. The only thing I don't think is fair is the mount and balance. I pay $12 a wheel for mount and balance at a trustworthy and good shop lol. Takes 5 minutes a wheel if you're good, full shop fee feels a little absurd

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
They charge by book time, not actual time. It's called flat rate.

Good mechanics with good technique can make 60-70 hrs pay/week during a 'real time' 40 hours.

And the prices you quote aren't bad at all if the shop does good work.

So, either learn to DIY or pay to play.

You're actually lucky they'll let you bring the parts. Some shops won't do that.

Might take them less than 10 hrs but its for sure an all day job for a single tech.

If you do it yourself and its your first time, it'll be an entire weekend project maybe even roll into a 3rd day if you mess up or have a problem.

They're not really related even though they're right next to eachother, theres no double dip in labor as you can install UCAs without dropping the coils and vice-versa.

Also the UCAs are a BITCH in my experience, but I also didn't really know what I was doing when I did them on my old taco, just watched a youtube video and thought "no problemo!"... ended up taking me almost all day just for the UCAs lol

Thanks for the feedback! One question I have is do I need to drop the rear differential on a 3rd gen double cab 4x4 Tacoma if I'm doing a 3 inch lift?

One shop that I got a quote from suggested that I add a differential drop if it's 4x4.
