That's what the Dodge is for. It's got an 8 foot bed and 3/4 ton leaves, and I've loaded a just shy of a full cord into that once or twice this summer. I don't mind if that thing rests on the bump stops because it never goes more than 3 or 4 miles that way, and it's not my DD if I break something. My parents live an hour away, so I took the Tacoma for this load. And since that one's my DD it gets treated more gently.

Negative. I didn't want to leave that kind of weight on the springs for longer than I had to, so I unloaded and stacked it in the shed that same afternoon.

Shrug. Overflowing with firewood means that you've ruined your rear suspension. Not sure if you guys know how much a cord of wood is, but it's 128 cubic feet. A cord of seasoned oak weighs in the neighborhood of 4000lbs; the green stuff weighs even more. Given that the rated payload for our trucks is in the neighborhood of 1400lbs, if you load even half a cord into the beds you're well over safety limits and into "I'm stupid and dangerous; arrest me" territory.
A six foot bed on our trucks works out to around 42 cubic feet, or around 1/3 cord. Loading 1/3 cord into that bed means that you're level with the bed rails, but you're already carrying around 1300lbs. So unless you're loading your truck with very dry Pine or Poplar/Aspen (which would weigh around 2000-2500lbs/cord), there's no way you're going to "overflow" it with firewood without exceeding your safety limits.

    YMMV; load with caution.

I've still got a payment on mine; I'll treat her gently until she's paid off. I don't owe anything on the Dodge, and it cost a tenth of what I paid for Aggie, so I don't mind treating the Yeti a little rough and overloading it. Fortunately, I'm nearly done stuffing the woodshed (and by shed I mean tent), since it's been in the 40's every morning this week.

Now we'd better stop posting firewood pics, before Brady yells at us for cluttering up his challenge forum with unrelated photos :D

Here's my entry for the 158th challenge. Closest I could get Aggie to the action at the car show today was on the side of the road across the field from the show.

Bleh Mustang? That was a '65 fastback with a 289 and a 4 speed! I'm not a huge Mustang fan, but I could definitely live with having that car in my garage.

You'd have liked the 70 Chevelle they had there, then. Had a 396 big block w/dual quads bolted to a 4 speed. Only had something like 45k original miles on the clock, too.

The OCD mustang nut in me says it's clean but no way an original 289 HiPo car and probably a 5 speed. And dam fastbacks are sexy. I want a 5 speed in my stang. :burnrubber: And I have yet to see mud flaps look good on a mustang.

If I remember correctly 65's didn't have the option of a 5spd. The shifter had the 4 speed shift pattern on the knob, plus he had the original build sheet sitting in the driver's seat along with the owner's manual and original purchase receipt from the dealership. And he had a pretty cool photo album of the restoration and repaint. Pre-restoration the car was robin's egg blue. :puke:

Nah, 5 speeds weren't an option till 80s I think. OD and $.25 per gallon gas? Nobody got time for that. Pretty common swap though now days and you can leave the 4spd shifter on and never know the difference. I don't think I have the original window sticker on mine :( That blue isn't bad, now it's just another red (or is that orange?) car that Ford never painted red to begin with. I've seen way to many red mustangs that weren't originally red so I'm way past burned out on red cars. :shug: oh well. I'd drive it none the less.
