Drove my mustang over 100k miles in HS and through college before getting my taco. Never had fuel injection, disc brakes, or even power brakes until the taco.

I don't think he was BS-ing us about it. Said that it was a #'s matching car, and that when he had it restored he actually spent the extra $$ to have the original trim pieces rechromed rather than buying NOS or reproductions. He told us that he wanted to keep it as close to factory original spec as he could, but couldn't bring himself to paint it Robin's Egg Blue again, so he went with what he called "Hot Orange" or something like that instead.
Nice guy, but he kept us there talking for probably 20 minutes, showing us this and that, starting it up, etc. Joked around that he wanted to be buried in it when he died. I hope he was joking, at least. That car's too gorgeous to waste on something like that.

Meh. If I'd dropped the kind of $$ that he did on the resto for that car, I'd probably put flaps on to protect the paint too.

    Philistine. :D

Same Mustang you have now, or a different one?
    Pics?

the first 4 vehicles i drove had a carb. since then i have pushed my family to scrap everything with a carb on it. only thing left is a 53 ford 8n. kinda hard to ask the old man to get rid of that.

Chevy hasn't been doing so hot lately. Already recalled the 2015 Corvette and they had only sold 3000 of them when they did it.

He should have kept the engine bay the original black instead of painting it the color of the exterior if he was so concerned about originality IMO.

Here's a fairly recent pic of mine. I've moved since then and it's at my folks until I can get a carport.

Maybe he's racist and doesn't like black in the engine room?
    Who knows.

As to yours: nice. I prefer the fastback Mustangs personally, but a classic's a classic.

if he's racist then he knows that black is a great color as long as it's not on people.

The 1974 original has the best chase seen of all time though.

Original I have seen. I especially like the car wash swap at the end-- always makes me laugh. I just haven't seen the Nicholas Cage remake. I probably should; I have heard that the chase scene from that movie's pretty epic too.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I like the 65 better.

Although we're renting a new mustang for our trip to the PNW next week...

"See ya around Billy." (or something like that) always cracked me up at the end. Some nice cars got destroyed in that movie. :(

I saw the new one first. Was in HS restoring my 67 when it came out. The chase was ok but definitely not half what the original was.

Meh. The only reason that Ford didn't need the same bailout money was because they saw the writing on the wall about the clusterfrack that was the American auto industry pre-crash and mortgaged every single piece of property they owned. Even with that capital, they still had to take a bailout, but I think it was "only" around 9 or 10 billion instead of 50 or 60 billion.
