You're learning:D With everything I have read on here and other places, people get really really confused about offset and backspacing... I think anything that involves math basically confuses people... haha (Like converting metric tire sizes to standard...). Offset is how many mm the mounting surface is from being centered on the wheel. Seems to be more important in the racing scene. Backspacing is how many inches the inside lip of the wheel is from the mounting surface. The smaller the backspacing the further out the wheel will be (ie wider stance, wheel spacers basically reduce the BS of the wheel).

The trick when converting between BS and offset is that when measuring the width of a wheel, the lips are not taken into account, but when measuring BS and offset they are.

For example, your 0 offset 16x8" wheel has 4.5" of backspacing rather than 4" even though 0 offset is supposed to be centered. If you measure an 8" wheel from outside edge to outside edge it will measure 9". (It seems to be pretty universal that all wheels have a 1/2" lip on each side) That is why 4.5" is the center of an 8" wide wheel and 5.5" is the center of a 10" wide wheel.

Stock 2nd gen wheels (non-TRD and TRD Offroad) have a 32 mm offset which is the 5.25 for the 7" wide wheel. Which I thought they were 7.5" wide, but I guess that is just the FJ wheels. So going to those 8" wheels with 4.5" BS will make you 1.75" wider per side.

The specs I saw for those were 7.5" wide with 5" BS. So yeah, something in the 3.75" BS or less range.

Yup, that's what I'm looking for. There aren't many wheels out there with 3.5" back spacing though. Well, ones that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Kind of hard to justify spending money on wheels when what I have works just fine.

Seems to go in phases. Faux beadlocks were everywhere in the late 80's/early 90's. Then they disappeared for a while and seem to be making a comeback.

Personally, I don't understand it either.

I don't really notice them anymore. I've broke about half of them out of the wheel, besides the fact that the lip there is so gouged up that is is just shiny aluminum so they blend in. I've broken all but one of the center caps out as well so I just took the last one off. haha

I've been known to use those little edges on the lip for extra traction ;)
