    Gotcha. I thought I saw that cutout in the bottom of the forend; guess I was mistooken. Those are great guns; I nearly bought one in .308 when I was looking for a lever gun. Ended up going with a used Marlin 336 in .35 Rem instead, because I use the lever gun for pushing thick cover and it's hard on the stocks. I would have cried the first time I scratched the stock on a $900 BLR, but when I do it in my $250 Marlin I figure it's just a beauty mark.


    What'd he weigh in at, once you'd field dressed him?
