Tacoma PRO exhaust drone

After the 4x4 Sport, the PRO exhaust has such a drone and I am not sure why Toyota did that. I know it is supposed to be cool and everything, but it does nothing for power. Just some sound that Toyota thinks is good.

How many PRO owners like the sound or dislike the sound.

Have you replaced it with anything?

 

I've not heard a Tacoma that I thought sounded good. I don't personally find the v6 configuration all that sonorous (save for a few exceptions). Always seems to end up sounding hollow/raspy or like a walkin' fart. Very difficult to find a happy medium. I would prefer it be quiet if it's not going to be good.

 

I have the TRD Pro Exhaust, no drone. Only hear it when I floor it.

 

I have heard it, drove it, liked it...except for the drone...wah,wah. I went with another system that sounds better and no drone.

I did however use 3M pro undercoat/ sound deadening spray underneath the cab that helped take what slight "droning" there was at my 1200-1300rpm range. Cheap, messy but did exactly what I needed. Bam! I highly recommend it!

 

Just trade it with a non pro. Im sure someone would take you up on that.

 

Take that drone out of your tail pipe. Pesky drones there every where!

 

Maybe I will have to get in touch the Drone Patrol.

i had the TRD catback on my Pro until last Friday and appreciated the added sound to help guide my shifts in a MT.

never noticed anything I'd describe as a drone personally. I've had plenty of performance vehicles and aftermarket exhausts and the TRD isn't even in the drone category in my opinion. but that's like, my opinion, man..

replaced with a mk2 URD Y pipe, rear cat removal, complete re-route, a Vibrant resonator at the 3" merge, and a Spintech 3000XL muffler, and a pre-axle turn-down. alll i can say for now is everything is entirely different now: sound, power delivery, throttle response ... all massively changed. no vids sorry. it's still getting it's first round of carbon buildup so the sound is changing daily but if you're ever in Denton hit me up, OP.

 

Sounds like you're ready for some custom OV attention.

 

I drove ~550miles over this last weekend and it was ok. I can't say it bothered me too much.

 

I'll ship you an OEM TRD Offroad exhaust and just ship me back your Pro exhaust, I'll cover shipping both ways and we'll both be happy

I only hear the exhaust when I give it considerable throttle, but no noticeable drone once I reach my desired speed. I’ve owned a few Nissan Z cars, and they definitely had exhaust drone. Taco, not so much...

Spintech sounds awesome on V8's, should have a unique sound on a 3.5 too, enjoy!

 

totally unique. when i started it after install i was speechless, couldn't believe what i was hearing. then you rev and it reminds you V6s almost never sound good. this one's no exception, but so far it's a crazy sound up to about 1/2 throttle. but like i said carbon is building and the sound is changing a lot. honestly though, the biggest change I'm experiencing from this last round of exhaust work is in the performance. big power change down low from removing the TRD muffler.

 

thanks for the recommendation on that. but i need more break in to get real happy. how long did yours take to break in?

 

I have a Pro and an OR (same year). The drone in the Pro wasn't as bad as my WRX with SPT and is totally acceptable in a daily driver.
