You seem to be hung up on post count. I couldn't care any less about my or anyone else's numbers. In fact, I never even look at how many posts a person has.

As far as "experts"? I see no one in this thread claiming to be one. I know a lot about the ends and outs of the industry. But at no point did I claim to be the ultimate authority

I've had a Taco from California, Texas and Baja. The only discernible difference I could find is the paint application quality is a little higher on the Baja rig.

My VIN# starts with a 3 and my truck was built in Guanajuato, Mexico. Not sure what differentiates Guanajuato from Baja in the VIN#, but the majority of Taco production appears to have shifted to Guanajuato.

Yes, the VIN begins with a 3 and it clearly states that it was manufactured in Guanajuato, Mexico. So a 3 doesn’t necessarily mean Baja and probably at this point more Tacomas are made in Guanajuato than Baja as it is the newest, biggest plant.

As long as it’s not made on Japan, I’m in. Those Japanese shitboxes were the worst!

I’m not sure if this is still the case or not but about five years ago a friend of mine was prevented from importing his used Nissan from the US to Mexico because it’s VIN started with the wrong digit. If someone were considering moving permanently to another country I could see ‘country of origin’ possibly being an issue other than that I’m not sure why it matters.

FWIW My ‘20 Taco was built in San Antonio, although had it built anyplace else that wouldn’t have bothered me.

Watched this video and don't remember anything after 3:33 min. I rewatched it and it happened again. I am literally blanking out at 3:33 every time. Oh, well, will try a few more times.

The plant code for Baja is M, for Guanajuato it is T. The plant code is the 11th digit in the VIN, after the model year.

VIN numbers aside, the sticker on the door should also say where it’s built. Mine literally says “Made in Mexico”.

Jeff, that’s great information, thanks. I think some people on TW think Baja and Mexico are synonymous. Made in Mexico can be Guanajuato or Baja. I am personally glad that my Tacoma was built in Guanajuato, as it is the most modern plant of the three (San Antonio, Baja and Guanajuato). I am pleased with the fot and finish upon delivery in December and no problems so far.
