I've had german cars mostly, would never even think of a chevy, ford etc.
I don't want to see Toyota going the route of the American trucks.

Sounds like you have a lemon. My 05 has 133,000 miles & I just replaced the factory battery last month. No problems with mine. I've only had to do normal maintenece items.

Maybe so, but I don't think it has much to do with "how they build 'em". Any "cheapening", whether real or perceived, is more of a result of the design and engineering end of things, not the assembly process itself. In other words, Bean Counters, not auto workers are more to blame.

Having said that though....I love my Taco. It's perfect for me...just enough "truck" to help out with weekend projects, but comfortable and practical enough for the daily commute.

Oh....and not a single issue so far. It's rattle free, tight and purrs like a kitten. But, then again, she's only got 10k on her...so perhaps I don't count.

BTW, I'm no Toyota FanBoy. I don't like my Taco because I own it. I own it because I like it. ;)

I don't buy on reputation alone. Just saying my truck has serious mechanical issues that shouldn't be. The mechanical issues weren't in the brochure. duh

So you got a lemon. duh. Deal with it through the proper channels and stop trying to label the TW faithful as Toyota employees or cult members.

Also, you can look at the brand new consumer reports reliability report where the Tacoma is listed as one of the three most reliable pickup trucks (thats not just mid sized, thats all pickups) and the frontier is nowhere to be found :p

Stop confusing the issue with facts. He'd apparently rather have all of us cult members agree with him.

Yeah, Toyota sucks! Let's get 'em!!!

i notice alot of people complaining about not having the 4x4 switch lit up...

i had a 97 taco manual tranny..the 4x4 switch was another stick right next to the gear shift, that wasnt lit, nobody ever had problems or complained about a lit up stick.... it took me 5 seconds to memorize my 09 4x4 switch, 1 click to right, 4x4 high, 1 more push&turn to the right, 4x4 low...not that hard...

if it bothers you that much..search the mod on this forum..doesnt seem that hard..

Dont bash an amazing truck just because you find little minor things that dont really matter..

Plainjanetaco, Think I pretty much agree with you. It seems it went down, but I'm not ready to pin it on design or "American made" and such. I'll be keeping this Truck \, I'm doubting it will get the recalls like the other trucks I had.... 1-2 TSB is nuthin.

So alleged mechanical issues that supposedly took time to occur aside, would it be safe to say that complaints such as this (below) would fall under the more gently put, 'lack of due diligence'??

"lousy paint job (Underside of truck in grey primer, engine bay overspray)
