if anyone is paranoid enough about the "lack" of quality of their truck.... then SELL IT! Go buy something else then. quite complaining. i'm tired of seeing these threads posted all over toyota/tacoma forums. this entire thread is based on opinion. go check the tsb/recall lists for both the 1st gen and the 2nd gen and notice that they are comparable. if that doesn't tickle your brain, go check out tsb/recall lists for other manufacturers and see how they compare. you might be amazed.

ok first off maybe this is where you belong if you really hate the toyota quality http://www.clubfrontier.org/ :D

but i dont think that trucks are ment to be show pieces thye are supposed to be a little dirty a little banged up in other words look like a truck and drive like a truck.

a lot of the things you can fix/mod your self i shit i hate the cloth on my seats and arm rests but im not starting a thread about it i have plans to fix it.

i have dents scratches, my bed has white marks on it what the big deal when the hell do people look in your bed and say "wow man i like your bed how much that cost you?!" if anything i have people say shit i like the sliding cleats, storage, THAT ITS NOT METAL

so look up the tsb get some WD40 and learn how to drive (if your trany is messed up alrady your doin somethin wrong)

my truck is an 08 bought it with 15 miles on it i have also 50k and the only thing i had to replace the battery which is my fault, and a few other things i messed up because i was bein a dumba$$

one more thing nissans are ok my dad had an old pulsar haha wost car ever everything was wrong with it, my GF's brother has a z and that this a a piece something is wrong with it every other day, her mom has an altma once again really bad car tranny goin out rust all over it many other things, my buddy had an 06 frontier bought it was 30 miles got rid of it 3 months later got a taco and has loved that truck like no other

i think i know where youre comming from though. i find i have loose windows when closing the doors. whistling on windsheild when on the highway and not 100 percent pleased with paint and design materials. but i think they must crap out on all that stuff to put more time into the hidden stuff like the suspension , motor etc. except tranny, they might have missed something there. i dunno.. these trucks are good off roaders, and middle of the line around towners

I'm with OP in regards to being disappointed with the 2nd gen Tacoma quality. Picked up my truck in the spring, and since then I've had several things go wrong.

    - Airbag light came on
    - A/C stopped blowing cold air
    - Radio reception is great, if you like listening to static all of a sudden
    - 4x4 won't engage anymore
    - some sort of moderate drive-line vibration

I went with a Toyota because I liked how the truck drove compared to other trucks, and I've liked the Tacoma for years. I also liked the proven reliability of the Toyota vehicles. I did my research, and the 2nd gens weren't rated as good for reliability/maintenance issues as older Toyotas. I took my chances, and am now disappointed.

Truck is in at the dealer for a heafty service bill (it is out of warranty), and I have a message to call the service dept. back to discuss something. If those effers are going to tell me that I need to pump more cash into the truck, I'm probably going to sell it. Good news is that I'd probably sell it for a new Tacoma with warranty - and I'll get extended warranty for it.

Also - for those who state things to the like of "it's a truck, get over it" or "it's not a euro car, get over your high expectations".... that's nonsense. I don't think that we should be buying vehicles and be expected to accept quirks and quarks. I expect that because I payed a premium for this truck over other trucks, that I'm going to get a good quality and reliable truck.

If you guys think that these problems are acceptable and we shouldn't be bothered with them, then your expectations for a high premium and quality vehicle are low. That's ass backwards to me.

In my opinion, Toyota's robust and reliable reputation is sliding, but this goes for most manufactuers. Not giving up on Toyota yet, as I'm considering selling the current truck for a newer one with warranty.

My #1 reliable and low ownership cost vehicles were my Honda Civic and Hyundai Accent.

    Disappointed,

    Me

That is a fair and honest post.

My 09 tacoma, while it's a solid truck, it doesn't feel as "toyota" as my wife's sequoia.
