I like the truck and size wise its what I need on a daily basis, for a 1/2 pint its not that great on fuel... I understand full size trucks are simply bigger, but they are also designed better, Toyota did a shit job on designing the rear seats.

Great so I have a fob and a key just to get out and lock the door, its -40 and I have to fumble around with this wee tiny key, how is this better than just a key?

Where do I begin on this:

The maps on your phone will always be better because they're constantly updated. However your phone is pretty useless if you have no service. You'd also likely need to keep your phone plugged in which isn't good for the battery.

I agree with you about the guages but, apart from maybe the Jeep gladiator, I'm not sure any mid-size pickup has them.

As for the transmission dipstick, many vehicles come with sealed transmissions these days.

As for the key fob, that sounds like user error. Even if it isn't, it sounds like you did no research on a remote start system because there are plenty out there that use the standard key fob.

The truck shutting off is a safety feature. If the truck didn't go anywhere without detecting the fob you'd be screwed if the battery ever died. You can start the truck with a dead key fob but as soon as you take it away from the start button it would no longer be able to detect the fob. If you think leaving the truck running with the key in it is any better, I have bad news for you.

At the end of your rant you start comparing the size of a mid-size truck to a full-size one and saying the mid-size doesn't have enough space. Apples and oranges.

Storage compartments: Honda has under bed storage but also doesn't have a full size spare tire.

As for your MPG comparison: that varies with driving styles. Many people with F150s complain that they get in the teens for MPG as opposed to the 24 MPG they were "promised." My Tacoma will get 21-23 in the summer at 70 MPH.

I liked until a couple of days ago, the fact is it has some shortcoming's, just voicing those things Toyota could have done better.
And yeah, yer right life is short

Not that unhappy, just pointing out its shortcomings, mostly disappointed with the dealer at the moment.

    1) this is the wrong crowd and the fanboy army is coming for you
2)i agree that trans temp should be on the dash. My old chevy shitbox silverado work truck even displayed trans temp. Shouldnt have to buy a scan gauge know that info
    3) i have a regular key for my sr5; not push button start and i cannot lock the door with the truck running either. Had my spare key in hand and tried to lock the truck with it running. Boom doors unlock immediately. Cant be done. These new vehicles are too “smart”

edit: it has been hard for me to go from an ‘03 jeep to this new vehicle. I miss the simplicity. Cant afford a project vehicle but i wish i could buy an old 4runner or xj to scratch that itch

I am lucky to get 14 MPG this time year, summer time hwy driving it did ok. Fob error, if the dealer cant make it work and claims it won't work then what....?

It is not uncommon to not have cell service, I was just saying that maps aren't that great on the Toyota.
Most full size trucks today have tranny temp gauges, this is not new.
Honda had storage inside the cabin sorted out better as well simply better designed and better use of space. The under bed storage was huge and pretty cool, what do you do if you have a truckload in the bed and need something under the bed ooppps HAHA

HAHA , mostly I did this post just to stir the fanboy pot, I like the truck, pizzed at the dealer right now because of unwarranted stupidity and hard to believe I spent what I spent top deal with that...
Ii have a workaround for the key, I discovered I can lock the door while sitting in the seat... duh, I know. Its when I step out and hit the button on the door. Apparently I need to make it think I am still siting in the seat. I get that they can do all this crap with the electronics, but just because they can, doesn't mean they should. or should at least make it user customizable. isn't the customer always right?

    OMG!!
Are you okay? seriously! Whoever kidnapped you and forced you to buy this vehicle against your will without even giving you a chance to research it should be put to death, YOU POOR THING!!!
Can i call your mommy for you? OMG maybe the authorities? It's not right that someone is forced to endure this, i mean, how the hell can you know how big the backseats are from a stupid test drive that you were forced to do under duress??
If only you had a chance to test drive this truck and get some information on it beforehand, like if there was some sort of service like an internet where you could research these vehicles before you are forced to purchase them by evil communist forces.
    Prayers and hugs to you
