Oh the fanboys are hating to hear anything negative....! It appears the fob requires the ap and eventually a paid subscription. I assume it would only work with if you have cell service....?

Trade it in for a Ridgeline. Then you will have the perfect truck.

Look, there are not very many in the general public who care about what you care about.
I choose to trust the engineers. They have given me a max tow and tell me it's a 100% duty cycle. They tell me to do 2X maintenance if I tow heavy.
I also know if I push it too hard a light will light and I will have to pull over.
I watched the Tacoma on several videos tow max with no issues.
This is not 1978 when I started driving. You want to know everything but an overwhelming number of owners don't, which is why we do not have gauges anymore.
Get a scan gauge. Get an app with a dongle. Don't bitch, do something about it as there are plenty of options.

“Maybe you guys never use these things?” What a troll. My truck gets used for work daily and it’s 20 years old. Yeah I’m in the third gen section, and you can still piss up a rope and slide down the dry side. This is textbook buyer’s remorse after you didn’t do your own god damn due diligence. No one cares homie. Pound sand to the nearest ford dealership if it gets your chode stiff. Guess I took the trolltastic bait. Don’t forget to bitch about the Toyota fob to the ford guy. Maybe he agrees and you’ll get a handjob on your test drive.

that would be great, mostly was bored and honestly there are some things with this truck that are legit complaints, there will be with anything.
I said, Storage could be better utilized, fuel mileage could be better, tranny temp gauges would be nice and key fob is a joke, pretty straightforward simple stuff, nothing to hate and is everyone saying, I love my fuel mileage, the storage is awesome and yeah who cares what the tranny temp is ??? guess what not seeing that...... just fanboys not wanting to admit there are shortcomings to the taco, you seem reasonable so thanks.

heaven forbid you should play the victim card, you just look like an idiot who didnt do any research. No vehicle is perfect, especially a tacoma, but most people have an idea about the vehicle they are buying before they buy it.

It's because we are closer to the magnetic north pole. Better signal for remote starting. It even works in my truck, which is odd, it never came with that option. Oh well....

I’m trying to figure out what the OP is trying to store in the cab that makes him dream of a Ridgeline.

I like that a lot. I own a 1st Gen and a 3rd Gen. They are both fantastic in their own space. Sold the 2nd Gen as I couldn't look towards the back seat and not see my doggo happily riding with me anymore. There is no way no where my 1st Gen could pull as much as my 3rd. Slower and maybe forever (it has 240k miles on it) but in a practical and comfortable sense, no way. Who knows, maybe the Ranger is better. I like what I have.

I've had moments of 14 MPG but pretty typically I'll get around 16-18 this time of year depending how I drive. Sometimes better. Lots of factors go into MPG.

As for the fob: it is entirely possible your truck didn't actually come with remote start. Given that you installed a viper system, I'd venture to say your truck didn't come with a true remote start that wasn't related to the head unit and the app. N2 designs makes a fantastic remote start that is plug and play and uses the stock key fob.

Yes, the maps aren't perfect but they're great in a pinch or for long trips. I use my phone for shorter trips most of the time.

As for the transmission temps, I do agree it would be nice to see them (along with other data) but most mid-size trucks don't have them. Yes, full size do but they're also expected to need that stuff more.

I guess I'm not sure what your storage situation looks like (access cab vs full crew cab, JBL sound, etc) and I couldn't tell you what that is like in the Ridgeline but I can tell you it is a hell of a lot better than the Colorado, Ranger, or Gladiator.

Yeah, the under bed storage is definitely cool but kind of gimmicky. Especially considering you lose your full size spare.
