Thats total crap! I have an ultragauge... it stays plugged into OBD 24/7. It turns off when the truck turns off. Sounds like your dealer is full of crap and has no idea about anything about vehicles.

I am not impressed with the dealer and no other choices. I had a issue with a no start condition when using the remote start. Essentially it said check charging system. Its minus 30 out, the only thing I can do is open the hood and check the battery terminals and make sure they are tight. light were bright and I tried to jump it, no go. While waiting for wrecker I tried it again and it started. Pretty weird and pretty helpless feeling. I was in town, so no big deal, if I was off in the woods I dont know what I would have done. At least with a key you can hear the solenoid click, with a fob you get nothing.....just a warning, I suspect it was confused and thought it was supposed to be running and when the system is not seeing 14.4V it decoded to not start and then a warning pop up. I checked voltage when I got home and all was fine at 12.7 and no issues since. I asked the dealer to scan it and see if they had a explanation, which they did not. Its a oddity and hope it doesn't happen again. At the same time I asked the dealer about OBD gauge sand that is when he recommended against it due to parasitic draw. I get that if you are letting todays vehicles sit for any lenght of time.

HUH, where did that come from? I didnt know they were issues with the rear end. Didn't mean to insult you, others maybe so, but they had it coming.

Well its been fun, glad I could stir the pot and boil some blood, I like my truck, but where I live you do need dead reliable vehicles, you end up in places where you are on your own, and sometimes simple really is better. I bought the Toyota because it seemed like it would work for me. I like driving it and it gets around good, I only wanted to point out it has shortcomings.. just like me... LOL

Mostly just pissed off at the cruise control situation and my dealer, I was really wanting to get rid of it yesterday.

My truck does this occasionally as does others. It is as if the remote start gets confused. I find when it does it, if I lock and or unlock the truck with the remote or start it with the remote, then Shut it off and push to start, the system will reset.

I've been on the hunt for a clean Niva for so long. I wish we could import new ones to Canada.

i was in the market for a f150 or a Tacoma. the f150 is the perfect car for our vehicle, its roomy and comfy inside. great power. better mpg. bigger bed. better tech and toys inside.
but i still went with the Tacoma. my reasons were that the Tacoma is better off road. its smaller and fits thru the off road holes that we go thru (tested) and the other big reason is that i have to park in downtown Sacramento for work and the parking garage is has very tight spaces. hell today i was taking my lunch in my truck and a lady parked next to me and opened her door and smacked my sliders. teh f150 is bigger and i would have worse time parking it there

Tacoma's are great in the sense that they are simple and reliable. they have less toys, so that means there is less to break. but i agree that it sucks to get 16mpg in a small truck that isn't fast. and doesn't have the nicest toys inside.

I like to put my truck into 4x4 and explore the dirty side of my neck of the woods.

The big question is...Are you done whining?

This has nothing to do with being fanboys. Everyone on this site understands that Tacomas have some shortcomings and there are room for improvements. That’s totally different than whining about things that can be easily researched or remedied without crying about being a victim. Plus, the OP is a troll who has admitted as much with his snarky comments.

The problem is not that TW has fanboys… it’s that we take the bait every Friday out of pure amusement…

The parking lot outside your favorite hair salon can be quite the dangerous and remote location.

Oh there are fanboys here all right. Over on Tundra World we could debate the merits and shortcomings of our trucks like adults instead of pulling out spears and daggers while tossing out personal insults at the OP. Sometimes it’s a complete waste of time trying to be involved on a thread here. Some of you take your trucks way to fucking seriously.

Imagine asking a dealer about an aftermarket product? Most barely know anything about their own products.
