2017 Tacoma... why no rear wheel disc brakes? I believe the Tundra has them. You would think the TRD with 4x4 package would include them.

I never thought about that. I guess the Tundra owners stay on the Interstate Hwys.

Other than for looks, why would you want rear disc brakes on a truck? Drums work great and are lower maintenance than rear discs.

It's been like this since the first Taco rolled off the line in '95. My '98 has rear drums too. I'm surprised they still have them to this day.

They will never over hear during normal or even extreme use. If you ever get near to over heating the rear drums, that would be because you already melted the front disks and all you have left are the rear drums

Don't worry OP, Mike Sweers says the 2027 Tacoma are slated to get them.

Yet the 4Runner and FJ cruiser which are more off road worthy have rear disks.

I have always wondered it myself. Drums have always worked for the Tacoma and people keep buying them so in many ways why would Toyota use discs. I remember when mountain bikes switched to disc brakes over all other types of braking. They were better in rain, mud , etc. I am sure it will happen one day.
