Im pretty sure its happening guys. Im always on the road for my job in metro detroit. I see future cars with camo armor on all the time.

This past spring I would always pass what I thought was going to be the new ranger. This truck would only come out at dusk like a big trophy buck. I swear the driver new I was out to get pictures to sell as a little side money because my job doesnt pay well. He was always on the other side of the highway headed in the opposite direction.

Finally he and I pulled into the same speedway one night and I was trying to get pictures but none turned out good enough to sell. I erased them from my phone when the ranger was announced.

The bad thing was once I saw the ranger, I knew it wasnt the new ranger but a new tacoma that was probably being tested by engineers in Ann Arbor. Then when they announced the ranger was not for sale in the us anymore I knew it had to be a tacoma. The front emblem was not a covered up blue oval but a taco emblem.

It looked like a combo truck. The front a mash up with Hilux and 2nd gen. While the bed looks like a 1st gens but with taller beefer fenders.

Granted this was with the body armor on so it could still change alot or just be a prototype test truck, but it does live. I havent been working lately but I'll head back to it soon and hopefully I'll start crossing paths with this truck and get some good spy photos.

I'm hoping the 2013 Tacoma will have design cues and the engine(4.0 270hp v6 or whatever the new hp it has) from the new 2011 4runner suv.

Ford is dropping the Ranger and might not replace it with a different model. Ford might just make people buy the F-150. What a fail on Ford's part, not everyone wants a gas guzzling full size truck.

There is a reason the Tacoma is now the best selling small truck. It used to be the Ranger but Ford neglected it for the longest time.

x2. The new front end of the 4Runner would look horrible on the tacoma

The average person doesn't need a full size truck. I will never buy one. My dad got a silverado recently and it is pain in the butt to park and turn at low speeds. Hope Toyota will never stop making these Tacomas.

If Ford makes it right it will sell. Just like you said if the Toyota Tacoma outsells the tundra, Ford could do it again with a new midsize truck. Didn't the Ranger used to outsell the F-150? I've been hearing Ford might make a new midsize truck and call it the F-100. The domestics need to update their midsize trucks too.

Ford Ranger: outdated engines, drivetrain and design since 2001

Dodge Dakota: same as the Ranger.

Chevrolet Colorado: Decent truck but the inline 5 cyl engine is junk.

Only other good midsize is the Nissan Frontier.
