I don't consider that a valid argument against financing, that said, 5.49% in early 2020 was a crap rate. The fact is, for any year or two you can pick, investments may not return that much, but over the course of a typical 4, 5, 6 (or more) vehicle loan, financing (and investing the rest) is a better long term strategy than paying cash.

Your 5.0% is actually 3.8% for most people. Also, you have to actually come up with the monthly payment since your CDs are locked in for whatever period time you select to get that rate. So let’s say you buy a $30k CD at 5% for 12 months. You still have to pay your monthly $1k car payment (or whatever amount for 2 cars) while that $30k is in the CD. That’s another $12k of cash you need to make payments while you wait for your CD to mature. Then once that CD matures, who knows what the interest rate will be for another one.

A few other factors you gotta consider as well, but those are a few so there’s a lot more to factor in than just you basic math and finance.

And remember car loans are amortization between interest and principle

We get far more inquiries for bed racks for Ridgelines than we get for Rangers, which is both sad and inexplicable.

Will be morphing it into my semi retired work truck
I am by the southern ontario dealership I purchased my 2023 from every week . They have no new or used tacomas on the lot or at their sub dealer .Its been like that since mid Jan. They had 10 or 12 trucks when I purchased . Only trucks on lot are 2 Tundras .
I lucked out with the 2023 as it was someone else's cancelled order . Originally went looking for a better work truck for my business on accountants tax advice . Not sure how Toyota is going to keep sales numbers up without inventory . Searched dealers in a 2 hour drive , used trucks are still insane money .

I am in the paying cash camp , over 60 so I do not want any debt .

The Baja plant only produces DCSB, but that’s the biggest seller, so you could be correct. Guanajuato is optimized for TGNA-F assembly, and could start cranking out 2024s pretty quickly.

I've seen some videos showing how Ford dealers are still charging markups on some trims while their normal stock of trucks like the F150 are starting to pile up.
I wonder if people just got tired of their shit and decided to go to other brands like Toyota?

From what I’ve heard, GM is facing the same problem. Increasing inventory with rising interest rates. The automakers have been so used to low inventories and getting top dollar for all their products that they are looking at slowing production to prevent a build up on dealer lots to keep those inventories low and prices up. Interest rates are really having an impact. Full size trucks are very expensive these days.

Ford itself is pricing themselves out of this world. I ordered and flipped a Tremor 150 last year and the price went up $2,000 from order to delivery (luckily ford offers price protection so I didn’t have to pay that). I checked a RCSB 5.0 4x4 and MSRP is over $51,000. That’s asinine! Who the hell wants to pay that.

Yeah, they've priced them out of most peoples ability.
I mean shit, an XLT F150 with regular cab but has 4x4 is still $50k, and that's before you consider also having to pay current car note interest rates.

Yeah the actual selling Transaction Price in the 4th Quarter of 2022 of Full-Sized Trucks is absolutely nuts, it cant continue on very long:
    GMC Sierra - $72,000
    Ford F-150 - $65,800
    Ram - $64,000

Same reason I financed. If I fall dead of a heart-attack tomorrow my brothers can use my money more than my truck, and I can use it even more until that heart-attack. :)

Same here in central Ontario. Chevy, Ford and Ram dealers have plenty of trucks in stock in the lots. The Toyota dealer has almost no new stock. There were 2 Camrys, 2 Rav4, 3 Corollas and one Tundra in the lot in Barrie, and most of them has sold signs in them. The lot can hold probably 30+ vehicles out front, almost looks like they're going out of business. Honda had around a dozen new vehicles. Pricing must have a lot to do with it. A Tacoma TRD OR @ $45K will cost about $20K less than a comparable Silverado custom, which are both far from top of the line, so no wonder the 'Big 3" lots are full and Toyota is empty.

You guys may be right about the market slowing for the F150, but Ford sold 20K more units in January and February (combined) than they did in 2022. December was the highest month of 2022 as well, by quite a bit (75k units sold).

Yep, same here. I'll bet that that the late model 3rd gens hold there value pretty well. Even if the 4th gens don't have any issues you know that the MSRPs will be going up on those.

Welp Tacoma sale were up in March over February.

    https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2023-us-pickup-truck-sales-figures-by-model/#monthlysales

Same with truck sales across the board including GM full & midsize. Nissan Frontier & Titan. Even Ridgeline sales are up. F series has yet to be reported, they could be down m/m. Hummer hasn't reported. I wonder where R1t Rivian and Lightning land for the month of March?

This could just be the uptick in production satisfying demand.

I'm surprised I don't see more Chevy full size on the road for the amount they build. I do see quite a few though. I've seen a few new 22 Colorado ext cabs OTR, if they aren't white they are usually blue or black. I have yet to see any of the new 23s I wonder how many are built waiting to be sold? Unless these numbers include pre sold 23s?
