I’m having a large discrepancy in my 2019 6 cylinder Tacoma fuel consumption and miles to empty
display. Toyota Corporate product experts informed me that there is
indeed a discrepancy but it falls into their 10% sensor accuracy policy.

Is designing a sensor system to be only 90% accurate make sense to you?

How can it be 100% accurate? It would need to be able to see the future.

it is so bad, you need a 5gallon , OHHH-DANG tank in the back, like I do my boat.

The vehicle takes historic MPG information and then applies it to the miles to empty readout. I am getting on average 24 MPG so on a 21 gallon fill up, the miles to empty should be approximately 500 miles. It only registers 395!

Alright, so it shows 395 and say you get 500 out of it. You are happy because you went further than it estimated.
Now flip it around, it shows you 500, but you only get 395. You are now going to be pissed off because the stupid ass computer told you the wrong thing.
Which one do you think Toyota wants?

Mine was consistently 0.5mpg high on the computer (about a 2.5% error). It was so consistent that I could plan fuel stops with it any day. Since I did the DTC and Learn Value Resets with OVT, it has been within 0.1mpg of hand calcs. These same Resets can be done with TechStream. You might want to give that a shot?

Your logic is sound.... however if it isn’t accurate, it isn’t accurate. In today’s day and age of computers and sensors it does not make sense that a simple gas mileage calculator would be not functioning like it might be if it were the
1970s. Toyota disappoints in this area given my sensor experience.

Tonered, what are Dtc and learned value re-sets with OVT?

A whole-tank average of 24 mpg is on the outer edge of the bell curve. The computer wont deviate too terribly much from the estimate that most people achieve, around 18-20 mpg.

Also, the computer isnt psychic. It doesnt know if you are going to hit a massive headwind while travelling uphill tomorrow. Miles to empty is for a rough estimate only, it shouldnt ever be taken as gospel.

If you put @ before a username, it notifies the user that you are talking to them. So, for example, @Ggap1

Also, if you quote their posts, it notifies them as well as reminds them what you are replying to.

No offense to the OP, but it's confusion like this that causes manufacturers to omit cool features that require too much explanation.

You mean like real OPGs and other instrumentation that moved to 'idiot lights' decades ago?

When I first got my truck it would say 400 miles until empty after I filled the tank. Now it says something along the lines of 385 miles until empty. I think it does quite well to be honest but it still couldn't be spot on as you would expect it to OP. Hills, wind, acceleration, speed, starting the engine, etc all affect the mileage.

90%, when my driving conditions, and or habits vary that much on an almost daily basis?
Yea, I'll take 90% all day any day.

This isn't going be your last complaint with this truck..

This makes total sense.no measuring device -sensor ,gauge, thermometer, torque wrenches ext are 100% accurate.
Those witch are rated high accuracy like around 97% to 99.9 are expensive and need to be recalibrated regularly to maintain there accuracy adding more cost, there for do not serve are intended purpose.
