So, you’d be willing to spend an additional $4k on your truck, and take it into the dealer every month for recalibration? Because that’s what it would cost to get the accuracy you seem to want. Sensors for solvents (yes, gasoline is a solvent) get ridiculously expensive.

There is still the old school E/F gauge with the needle thingy. I keep my eye on that instead of the guestimator miles to empty readout.

On my current truck, the mpg reported is always off by 1 mpg as compared to manually calculation. Other Tacomas I've had were closer to the manually calculated number. Back when I was running Ultra Gauge on my 2012, it had a function where you could go in and adjust the reading it was presenting to match manual calculations. It then was very accurate but I still needed to recalculate it as the seasons and gas additives changed.

As already pointed out, the ave mpg's the computer thinks you're getting will be the basis to calculate and report the miles to empty with some safety factor. It would be extremely helpful if there was the ability to adjust the reported mpg to match actual mpg in the settings, but I guess that's asking too much.

Design a better one. Sell the design to Toyota. Buy a house with the proceeds.

Take photos: I want to see the look on your face when what you think you know collides with reality, catches fire, and explodes in a super-heated ball of "Ooohh... I see!"
