I have 2 questions regarding the Tacoma pickup. I have been thinking of trading my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 4dr for a 4Runner SR5. After a 2000 mile roundtrip from western NY to St Louis I am not happy with the constant downshifting and upshifting of the truck. While reading some comments on the adjacent 4Runner site there is a mention of Pedal Commander and another gas pedal fix(?) that supposedly helps to alleviate the shifting problem. Opinions either good or bad are appreciated. The other question regards the OVTune hand held unit and does this unit for the 2017 3.5 liter still require the use of a laptop computer running Windows.

First off I can tell you id pick any OVtune product over a pedal commander product anyday.

Second I believe the purpose of OVtunes handheld unit is to allow you collect data for your own tunes or make your own. And if I remember correctly on OVtunes website is says the regular tune is required.

I just got my OVtune last night and after a little driving I can tell you that the $700 for just the flash software is worth it. Also you do need a Windows laptop for OVtune flash software

Would not have to if there was no problem.

There are no transmission problems. If you dont like the truck trade it in.

    Some stuff
    OVTune.
I have the software/laptop, so, no comment on the handheld.
Just drove from Mass, to Corpus Christi. TX, 1980mi....
So much better. Still shifts, but, much better, holds 6th, etc.
The new update is supposed to get rid of all the extra crap, and make it shift like. Tundra, 4runner etc.
The transmission is now no more irritating than the 6spd auto in my work van(6.0 express 1ton)....

Does that mean it's also known to cause cancer or reproductive harm?

S4 and S5 helps a ton. I just pretend it's a MT now. I even kick my left leg to downshift. Double clutching like I should.

Real question for the OP here. Have you gotten either of the TSB updates from the dealer? Those are free, and you won't be out anything if they don't work. But if they do work, they just might save you $700.
