I bought the truck used from the dealership. Could it be an issue if the previous owner had an aftermarket alarm?

Alarm will only keep it from starting won't make it stall.

Do not stick any object in the throttle body. This I know for a fact can mess it up. Do some research on how to do it properly if you don't already know how.

Use the handle end of a screw driver to hold it open

I use a small brass brush to gently brush throug the crud ring that builds up around the plate, with squirts of tb cleaner to keep it wet.. giggiddy..

All I can think of is if the truck is running and then dies out of the blue and won't crank it sounds like it's something electronic rather than a physical part failure. If the battery were loose the lights on the dash would go out too, and those are staying on.
It's got to be a sensor or the security system having a short.
It's weird that it's an intermittent problem. Are the cables going to the starter good?
I'd also check what the guys above said, maybe the ignition wires are frayed or the connection is loose.

Why pry? Just push it open with your hand.. you have to get the crust ring out. That's the only way to get the airflow you need at idle

I keep thinking security problem but again would that cause a stall?

I don't know why they pried it open but that's what they did and it then needed to be replaced.

As the crud ring builds up the plate opens farther and farther to compensate and sustain enough airflow for idle. If you pull the battery cable the plate goes back to square 1.. buried in the crud ring.. it will idle super low, it will hunt, it will want to stall, and it will crank no start or crank and quickly stall, next time it happens try feathering the t rhottle..
