The pink and green wire go to the black LOCK ACC ON START ring. But what does that piece do for the ignition?

The ring around the ignition is there to recognize a coded chip in the ignition key

I am not sure op, it looks as if those wires are supposed to be there. Clean them up. I would start with a good round of electrical tape and see if problem goes away. If it does then go back and solder and clean up proper like.

You might be right there at the problem, fix the wires carefully. What you're looking at is encouraging to see

Would the crank sensor cause a stall?

Yes but don't listen to that guy yet. Fix what's obviously bad in front of you, then move on to the crank sensor if you need to

Hold on to your crank sensor. The crank sensor can only work as good as the wiring going to it from the computer and the computer can only work as good as the wiring powering it up from the ignition switch

Yes you should. It's a simple thing on the outside of the engine.

my problem with bad wireing is it sounds as if it just started randomly which if it was bad wiring would cause the issue since he's owned it not at random.

That is why I'm not convinced it's a crank sensor yet usually a crank sensor will flag a trouble code because it directly communicates with the computer. It's a sensor that the computer is looking at all the time so if it drops out for a second it should set a code. Questionable ignition switch wiring can cause problems but it is not necessarily in the category of things that will flag a code
