You mean defog? Also, I once drove a 1974 Ford F100 that had an automatic transmission and front disc brakes, but no power steering or power brakes. No power steering wasn't terrible, but no power brakes in a truck that big and heavy was SCARY!

My uncle's 1971 VW Bus was very forgiving to drive, though! Manual steering, manual front disc/rear drum brakes (1970 was the first year for front disc on the bus), and 4-on-the-floor!

    Yeah...

Defog just blows warm air on the windows, while defrost actually heats the windows. Did the Corolla have A/C at one time?

you say that, but soon enough you’d be longing for power steering back. I think it’s more necessary than a stereo as it really is a core of driving itself. Otherwise you’d be having to use both hands most of the time and really using extra force to turn the wheel. Also, it’s not like power steering is unreliable in these trucks. Mines is a 2002 and has never needed any tampering, other than a fluid flush and fill (and it uses transmission fluid at that! No fancy and specific “power steering fluid” that I see on the shelves).

As for the manual transmission and windows.. I agree

Ac .. not so much as I live in Houston

99.9% of the time I’d never go without A/C!

Never saw a taco without power steering but I remember buying a plain jane toyota pickup brand new in 1992, no options, and I'm talking no radio or rear bumper. I paid the dealer to add a/c and to install a mirror on the passenger door. I bought a black step step bumper at pep boys and put a stereo in it myself, can't remember about the brakes but pretty sure they were manual, but I know for a fact it did not have power steering.

The reason for that is pretty simple actually. The ratio inside the rack or steering box is different between power and manual steering models of the same car. I don't have a Toyota example but I do know that the FC Rx7 used a 14:1 ratio on power steering models, and a 17:1 manual rack.

Weird, I’ve had 2 trucks with manual steering. A 1969 GMC C10 and a 1991 Ford Ranger. It was terrible on the GMC but barely noticeable on the little Ranger.

I think you're right, my boss had a ranger that I cut springs on and I dont think it had power steering. Wasn't so bad once youre moving.

Cutting springs was not the answer to right height...

My current "work truck" a 90 model Isuzu with 250,000 miles has no power steering. Luv it in parking lots , pulling into the driveway etc. ... in hard turns you get to flip over your hand, palm up, grip it and rip it style, call it what you want. Old school at its best. They don't teach that method in drivers 'ed.
