I delivered two different orders from two different places (including the Speedway where I parked next to the 3rd Gen from New York) to the same customer, a laborer doing work on a brand new home, and he let me take pics of his ride; 1999 Extended Cab SR5 with 186K miles!

    I’ll never dislike a picture of a 1999 or 2000 Tacoma.
    I had a 1999 my brother had a 1998.
He later ended up Mitch my 1999.

When I say, “The 1st Gens are good trucks”.
    I know from experience.

When you’re 17 years old. You learn things the hard way.
The tires left the ground multiple times.
The transmission took a beating. Tow WAY more than it should.
Hell, my brother and his friend drained the wrong pan.
Ran the trans empty and engine over full (10+ quarts) until it “didn’t want to go fast”.

I sunk the truck at least 3x times in the mud requiring disassembling the skids and brakes to clean the red clay out.

How we didn’t break the ball joints clean off, I will never know.
I guess someone woke where was looking out for us.
Just 2 dumb ass kids, never knowing any better.

Now I know better, I couldn’t get away any of it.
Shit would break before I left the driveway.

Ignorance is bliss. Being “smart” can SUCK.

I was like 'nice!' then saw pre-runner! Still nice just slightly less desirable.

PreRunners aren't particularly common in PA, but 5-lugs and 4x4s are. Can't the PreRunners be converted to 4WD if you know what you're doing?

    I'll take that as a no; I've got a 5-lug, and I would just buy a 4WD if I wanted a 4WD...

Yeah, it's not that it can't be done but it's a lot of work, usually better just to buy a 4WD but I suppose that as the years go on the 'best' option changes.

Probably cheaper than selling your otherwise perfectly fine 2WD Taco, buying a brand new 4WD Taco, and having monthly payments at 6% APR!

Who finances a 23 year old vehicle?!? But I disagree. If it's cheaper your time is worth nothing and you got a free donor vehicle. It isn't a trivial 'swap' and the resale value will be low but that probably isn't a factor. But it's a lot of work and you need a donor. Meh, might work for some, but it seems like it's only a good solution if you are very attached to your 2WD truck for some reason. And they exists. I just think it's way too much work.

Never said anything about financing something that old...

Also, my truck got a brand new frame for free under the recall so it's basically new underneath.

You're probably right, but pre-2001 Tacos are not common around here so I document them whenever I can (even the shitty ones)!

I was DoorDashing when I took the pic of the beige one, and the red one was parked across the street from my girlfriend's grandparents' house. I DO NOT go onto private property to take pictures, but there ain't nothing illegal about taking pics of a vehicle on someone's property if you take the pictures from a public space.
