My dad bought me a Toyota OEM control stock from the dealer as a Christmas gift last year. Total incl. tax was like just under $140.

Because it's 15 years old, has over 100K miles, and any warranty has long since expired...

It also happens to have some wear-and-tear...

I did not learn how to drive a stick shift until I was 25, but when I did learn, I'd say I mastered it in about 20 minutes (probably less). The truck I learned in was my uncle's 1991 Toyota 2WD pickup, with the 2.4L and 5-speed manual. I've also driven my dad's boss's 2002 Saturn SL 5-speed and my other uncle's 1971 VW Bus. So yeah, I can drive stick...

Anyway, this 2002 Taco was unlocked so I seized the opportunity and tried it on for size. I pushed in the clutch and shifted through the gears, 1 to 5 and reverse. I don't know if there was something up with this truck's transmission or if I just wasn't used to it, but the truck was rather "wonky" in the way it shifted. It just seemed harder to find gears, and the 4WD shifter seemed to make it more cumbersome (I've never actually driven anything 4WD with a manual transmission). Any thoughts on this...?

I'll bet it runs and drives great, and the A/C is ICE COLD...

    OP here...

I wonder what I could get for my truck...?

My daily driver is a 2010 RC 2WD (5-lug/non-prerunner), and I too have 78K miles! My truck has the 2.7L and automatic tranny. My truck has technically had two owners (though CARFAX only lists one), but it has been in the same family since new. My dad bought the truck brand new in September 2009 with like 20 miles on the clock. My dad signed the truck over to me last year and pretty much gave it to me as a Christmas present. I now have a clear Pennsylvania title in my name. My truck has been a few MINOR fender benders, but nothing serious. The worst accident was in October 2015 when a drunk driver hit my truck in the left rear and did $2,600 in damage.

My truck has all service records since new, and the frame was just rustproofed as per the newly reinstated recall. My truck has ICE COLD A/C and hot heat. It runs and drives great. Tires are brand new, and it is inspected through October 2018. It has custom wheels and an aftermarket stereo system (new speakers in 2013; recently installed a touch-screen head unit with navigation). It also has a backup camera.

    Other updates include:
    Ellis Precision gearshift knob
    HomerTaco grille
    WeatherTech rainguards and floor mats

Blue Book Value on my truck is about $9,000-$10,000 for trade-in, and $9,500-$11,000 for private party. I'm never going to sell my truck in this lifetime, but I'm curious to know what I could get for it...

It's a Taco. It's ate up like Swiss chess but the service manager said it would buff out.

With a cutting torch, a welder, and a bit of imagination, that could be made into some pretty cool furniture!

What year Taco? 1st or 2nd gen?
