You have to take into account the 3 accidents it's been in, the mileage, and the interior condition.

Nothing personal against Charlie. People get emotionally attached to vehicles and almost always overvalue them.

I'm just talking buiness, not emotion

To me there is beauty on connected grid of self driving vehicles. Imagine in traffic, the green light sends 25 vehicles through efficiently and quickly.

But, my bad ass $6000 computer still stutters every once in a while. Sooooooo...not yet, not for me.

I thought the same thing and was ready to travel out of my area to find an MT optioned the way I wanted. I got lucky though, the Toyota dealer 5 mins from my house had five MT's (I think three were OR's if I recall) back in late March. Their pricing was fair and they delivered (I live alone and hate asking people for rides). I agree though it does seem that out-of-state pricing is generally better, but a hassle to get registered here.

Honestly though if Toyota offered an MT in a 4Runner I likely would have bought one of those instead. If Toyota plans on the 4Runner being able to compete with the Wrangler and Bronco I could see them adding some sort off-road 4Runner which might include an MT but who knows.

Come to So.Cal. I make my living keeping traffic signals and related equipment working. It's pretty common for us to be able to move 20-30 cars in one signal cycle. But I'm in an area with wide streets (most are two lanes in each direction, some are three or more in the newer parts of Orange County). There's a lot at work behind the scenes and most of it is being handled on Controllers which are using architecture which is 15-20 years old LOL!

The other thing to consider is a variation on the "trolley problem".

If you self-driving cars are on an unavoidable collision path, how do the two computers deal with it?

Does the Mercedes survive? Does the one with the premium or platinum package survive? Does the driver and passengers age health etc factor in?

Carfax says $9,000-$10,000 and Blue Book says $7,500-$8,000; It varies depending on the time of year and I’d say I could get $8,000 for it...

I have always found that KBB / carfax values are hard to pin down. Largely due to the subjective nature of fair shape vs good, vs. excellent.

I have always aimed at buying used vehicles in "good condition", at "private party", because excellent condition is rare.

That being said, Tacoma's, 4runners and FJ Cruiser are always undervalued by those sites.

Those had three of the top five highest resale values for a few years.

When I worked at a car dealer detail shop, we got a white 2007 Tacoma RC 5-lug auto on a trade; It was a bit beat, but it only had 52K miles on it and ran great (this was in late 2018 or early 2019)...

I believe the dealer listed it for like $12K?

A Volvo dealer in Doylestown had a 2009 virtually identical to my 2010 but a different color in like 2018; It had like 50K or 60K miles and they wanted almost $15K for the damn thing! My truck has higher miles, but it’s in good shape and has a lot of handy upgrades like intermittent wipers and a backup camera so I think I could get $10K for it...

In my area, 2003s with 200k go for $7500 to 8500

Rarely see bad rust like in the north

Yeah l often wondered how it would deal with a self preservation choice, take out a bunny rabbit or drive off the side of a cliff to avoid it.

Running it through Edmunds and tagging it has average condition, adjusting for mileage, interior condition, and the accidents...you come up $5-6k trade in and a $6.5-7.5k retail.

Cross referencing that to field inventory through Cargurus confirms those numbers

Yep, my son is getting ready to learn how to drive and have been thinking about teaching him in a manual. Both my wife and I know how to drive a manual and thought it be good for him learn how to dive one too.

I have to admit my Taco has an AT and got it because there is to much stop and go traffic where I live.
