    How true.

I tell all padawans coming out of school to at least save enough in the company 401-k to get the full match.. I've been socking it away since age 22, and since it was never in my pocket, it was impossible to spend. It's very tough to tell a young person with money, freedom, and probably very little responsibility to not blow the paycheck and have fun. I always go back and tell them the one thing you cannot get back is time, and the impacts on savings resulting from compound interest. And with the market tanking, now is a good time to be dollar-cost-averaging... when the tide comes in, your savings are gonna soar.

I just turned 50, and have only owned 4 vehicles, with the Taco being the 4th. Only one was new, and it wasn't the Taco. The first three had to be retired because: 1/ the suspension failed ('78 Buick, 155k miles on a Pontiac 301 2bbl - engine and tranny were solid when scrapped); 2/ Timing Belt went (89 Olds w/ 2.3 L Q4 wiith 166k miles, no A/C, sunken headliner); and 3/ the cross-member rotted away (2006 Escape). I never had the need to have the "latest and greatest", just something was got me where I needed to go. None of them stranded me until the final nail.

I will admit, I am putting money into my taco, but I am in a different place now. Save your money. Get the house first. If you have a ride that functions, you are good to go. Maintenance is cheap. Repairs / rebuilds are not.

I've got an actual bed, so I don't need to risk an indecent exposure charge; I've made out with girls in my truck before, and girls have been topless in my truck, but it didn't go past second base...

    :amen:

When you say that 1989 Oldsmobile had no A/C, do you mean it NEVER had it, or it had it at one time but it was broken...?

Oh I’m not saying I’d attempt it, don’t believe I could talk the wife into it on account of how uncomfortable it would be. Mattress is much preferred haha

Almost got a BJ in the truck, but I was too afraid of getting caught and aborted the mission...

It had an air conditioning compressor installed, but it held no charge. Hell, even the vacuum vent system was failing on it at that point, and it was a challenge to get it to direct airflow to the windshield in winter...

It didn't have power windows or power locks, though...

But I will say in my inner John Candy voice, "The radio (was) as clear as a bell..."

In my "craziest things you've hauled with your Taco" thread, one member told of how he gave three drunk coeds a ride home and two of them ended up topless in the backseat...

I'm pretty sure I've done more things in/on/around vehicles than anywhere else :bananadance:

I still have the shaft-style Delco AM/FM Cassette from the '78. That still works 100 percent. Need to find a pic.

The deck in the Olds was not salvageable in the end... tape got jammed in it, and no, it wasn't the Proclaimers, but I had two choices... keep a half a clothes pin under the tape so I could use the radio, or try to get the tape out. Well, I tried to get the tape out, and the mechy was essentially killed during the operation.

Both sound(ed) better than the factory HU in my Taco.

I do not get along well with the old Delco radios where you put the cassette in lengthwise; Got my favorite Disney Jungle Book soundtrack tape stuck in the cassette deck in my dad's 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer when I was like 5 (so 1994 or so), and I got my dad's Roy Orbison tape stuck in the cassette deck of my grandma's 1988 Buick LeSabre in 1999. Both times, my dad was able to get the tape out without damaging the tape or the radio!
