I remember when we bought that van new, the salesman told us the belt had to be changed by a certain mileage or else it would break and REALLY f*ck up the engine...

Glass transmission odysseys aren't the best vehicle in the world

    Talibans don't drive them

It's called a interference engine...the valves interfere with piston if the belt breaks.

I didn't say it was the best vehicle in the world, just the best damn vehicle we had...

I agree with you on the tranny being made of glass, but ours was 132K miles and still going strong. It was noisier than it should have been but it worked fine. Van is now owned by dad's boss and has almost 150K (original tranny).

Hey Charlie, is this on a used car lot or an actual Toyota dealership? There can be a big difference. Used car lots can be a big "buyer beware trap.

Actual Toyota dealership, where I always brought my truck for warranty repairs and recalls...

I'm guessing they gave themselves a little wiggle room...or a lot of wiggle room. Some people view KBB a little on the low side of value...almost like a wholesale price or a price you would pay the owner. In the old days it was a big deal to buy a nice car at book value. May still be the case.

I just bought a 2010 Tundra that was too old to be certified...salesman told me it was and I started filling paperwork out....turns out it wasn't...oh well got a hell of a deal because of that.

My Tacoma was too old in my insurance company's eyes, and because it was over 2 years old (almost 6 years old) at the time the drunk guy hit me, I now have a non-OEM rear bumper because it was cheaper...

JBL systems in Toyota vehicles KICK ASS. My aunt's 2009 RAV4 Limited has it, my friend's mom's 2007 Camry Hybrid has it, and my friend's 2003 Highlander Limited had it (Same friend whose mom has the Camry; Sadly he totaled it in 2013 with 185K miles on the odometer).

Here is a picture of me and my friend with our respective Toyotas, taken back in 2011 in his driveway, just days after I got my license...

Yes, my friend (born in 1988) has Asperger's too, and he got his license before me (at age 19)...

My uncle has a green 2012 access cab SR5 short bed 2WD with 5.7L... Not the uncle who has the orange 1991 Toyota, but his and my dad's older brother.
