Seriously hoping Toyota engineers resist comments from Equinox drivers & tune out gimmicks like tailgate storage on the next gen.

Literally, offer the same truck w some added low end torque, a couple extra gears and throw in a grab handle. Screw it together tight and there’s another 10 year best seller.

I thought we were talking about remote entry locks connected to the tailgate. I’m pretty sure that hole in the back of my tailgate is a lock. You all aren’t using that for storage, are you?

If we had a cubby in the tailgate it wouldn’t be a bad spot for tie downs, first aid kit, a hitch and pin… how terrible would that be?

Apparently, pretty terrible to use otherwise wasted space, on a truck known for being cramped.

Then again, if you have all that stuff hidden away, you’ll lose major Mall Crawl points and risk losing your Overland merit badge.

How many times do you unlock the tailgate, load your shit or unload it, then get busy and forget to lock it? A lock tied to the remote solves that.

Do you know how much I care that my tailgate doesn't stop at 45 degrees? Zero.
Do you know how much I care that my tailgate doesn't have a measuring stick on it? Zero.

Look, if it did have a measuring stick on it, I wouldn't get rid of it solely because of it or anything. I just would probably find it neat or cute when I bought it, and that's about it. Because typically any endeavor I partake in that requires the measuring of something, I would tend to bring a tape measure with me anyway.

Like if someone is so desperate for a tape measure that they choose their vehicle based on whether or not it has a tape measure on the tailgate, then so be it. I don't care what is important enough to you to affect your decision. But I do think that before a vehicle manufacturer gets to the topic of putting a tape measure on the tailgate in their board meeting, they ought to have every other refinement dialed in first.

Anyway, if it's that important to you, head on over my way and we can add some notches to your tailgate. We'll make an afternoon out of it.

My truck came with tie down storage already. (Suck it, 2019s+)

    PXL_20230220_001927485.jpg

And what storage it didn't come with, I made it up.

    PXL_20221206_200913190~3.jpg

Which is kind of the point I guess. If you want to make your gate into a junk drawer tackle box, I'd applaud it. If Toyota sold the exact same thing as an option, I'd call it fucking dumb. I didn't make the rules I just follow them.

Like I said, most times I’m just chucking stuff into the bed. If I drop it then remembering to lock it is just like locking a deadbolt. I’ve manually locked the car doors enough in my life to not be bothered by it. I’ve never had a tailgate get stolen either. There’s an easy bolt-on mod, or an OEM and third-party power lock option. I just don’t understand the griping here. Then again I went and got some plug-in heated seat covers for $70 instead of whatever the ridiculous dealer package includes them because that’s what I wanted in my truck.

So instead of Toyota including it at no charge on a $40-50k truck, you recommend if someone wants to have keyless tailgate lock to have some hack at a Toyota dealer install or diy? I don’t understand your logic on why the fuck Toyota can’t include it standard from the factory.
“Bah I like my basic truck Bobby I tell you huwhat”

Lmao some of you people are out there.

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
You won’t want the tailgate though, won’t lock at 45 degrees and it can’t help you find your belt size!

Tailgate is sh!t. I leave mine unlocked with a note telling thieves to steal it. And even the thieves don’t want it because it’s just so basic.

Lol, and you find this more convenient than a one time installation of a plug and play remote tailgate lock?
