I'd even say the Jeep Wrangler is the AR, similar market to the AK, seems like everyone buys one, and attaches as many aftermarket parts as possible.
For reliability and just straight forward functionality, AK wins.

You can get an AK by trading it for a goat in some locations of the world, the goat has to be unmolested to get a quality AK though.

    I’m a gun owner.

I’ve never heard of anyone say just “AK” before. Nor do I still understand the reference. I guess AKs are POS weapons. I guess thats what hes saying? IDK.

Its slang I’ve never heard. Not even growing up with guns.

For allI knew he was talking about Arkansas.

If by AK you mean “old, dated, and exceptionally overrated in terms of actual reliability - relying on a storied, but oft inflated history and now progressing mostly on name rather than actual substance,” then sure, the Tacoma, and Toyota as a whole, is a lot like the AK47.

I think he meant that the AK can be a rattling, loose feeling POS, but it will always function. As a few others have suggested or insinuated here, an AR can be a little finicky when it comes to being clean to properly function. An AR can be shiny, new and tight, but it may not function well at times.
I'm just guessing here and the thoughts described here are not necessarily the thoughts/beliefs of this forum.....

Didn't mean to open Pandora's box. Just meant that this truck may not be the most luxurious but it will always get me home and I love it.

MOST people call them AKs these days,

I've seen some janky AKs that still sing their song well, but they aren't invincible.
