It hit 1.19 prime pandemic in 2020 here. I know it was for special reasons but 4.25 now is robbery.

Just look at it this way, if you take a week or two of paid leave from work, and just sit at home the entire time, you can buy that big expensive mod for your truck you always wanted with your gas savings :anonymous:

Oil price is set GLOBALLY, not here in the US. So what we pay for gasoline is determined by the global market. So any speculation or disruption in the global supply of oil causes the people who trade in futures to pay more (or less) for a barrel of oil, which changes the price.
There are 9K leases sitting on the desk because the exploration companies couldn't explore while oil was below $70 a barrel which was recent. Above $70 they can make money.
So, now they are starting to explore and drill test holes but that takes time and probably half of those 9K leases are gonna be dry holes.
There is not enough room on the internet for me to explain why we both import and export oil but for a TL;DR explanation, all oil is not the same. Some is light, some is thick, some has properties better suited for making plastic, etc.

I can't even imagine how people are going to react when it's $10 a gallon.

So at what price does it start to matter? And at what point does it magically start becoming a bad personal finance problem for you?

Most people are struggling with the rise of inflation which has nothing to do with their personal financing and everything to do with policies set by our leaders.

Believe it or not, most people live on a fixed income and their wage doesn't increase 7% a month like the cost of goods do.

Starting my road trip to Las Vegas from Portland this morning for the Mint 400 race. I usually take the Tacoma for but decided to take the Rav4 for this trip which gets 12 mpg more than the Tacoma. The math says $375 in fuel round trip. The same trip cost less than that when I drove the Tacoma down for the 2020 races. I'm definitely NOT driving through California on the way down. But again I avoid California altogether in general.

This was my thought as well. Less people trying to take my camp spot lol

Being serious, somethings gotta give. Fuel costs coupled w/ crazy rental prices are going to put the hurt on a lot of people.

Petroluem is like food. You have to have it. It's like water it's like air oh wait we don't pay for air yet. So it's a must have. So in that case the price can go up as far as it wants to and it's still not gonna matter because you still have to buy it. Maybe drive less or cut corners somewhere else but it will drive the cost up on everything you buy.
